He is my PCP, so I was so nervous and embarrased that I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest. My husband said I was bouncing my foot so hard that it was driving him nuts. I didn't even notice! hahah!

Well, he agrees that there is something going on. He said "these things are hard to diagnose, so I think a full evaluation is in order from a qualified psychiatrist...he said sometimes it can be bipolar, etc. But I think he does think I have ADD, not bipolar. I agree. I don't have manic and depressive episodes, and I do feel like I have so much potential, but I can't live up to it.

He is referring me to a psychiatrist and hopefully I can get in next week. He also said that when I get diagnosed, he has no problem refilling any meds that I may be prescribed, which is good, considering the nearest psy doc is about 2 hours away! Ack!!

Well, I took the plunge...and I feel like there is some hope for me yet....

I'll keep all updated on my next visit and thanks for the support.

Oh yes, Silentmayhem, there's lots of hope. :)
Good that you have a PCP that does not dismiss it!

I went and got a full evaluation from a psychiatrist before being (recently) being diagnosed as well. He had me do all kinds of visual and auditory tests on some machine called the "Tova" and I also did all kinds of worksheets that apparently help to show how your brain works. It was very interesting.

What happened to me was that the psych also does a battery of other tests, like the MMPI, and so I got to hear other stuff that I didn't necessarily want to hear. I got a seven page document all about me and my GP read through the entire thing before writing a scrip for me. One of the most embarrassing things he said was that I had some particular personality type (there were letters and #s involved, like LMC-IM4, something like that) and this personality type could give a spouse a nervous breakdown. Whatever!

I'm really glad I had that experience and I can see some truth in what he said and some things that might have been clarified had I been his actual patient and he'd known me for more than four hours. I have been watching my husband very carefully lately. ;)

I'm not telling you this to freak you out; I just want you to know what my "full evaluation" was like, there were definitely some surprises, but in the end it was 100 percent worth it.
