That happens to me with ritalin. If I stay awake when the effect of my last dose is off my stomach yells XD. I'll start taking Concerta next thursday.

Hi. I use to take concerta and it worked to a certain extint. I took it last year during school. I worked a little as far as concentration and reading. It however seemed to wear off. I haven't been on it in a a while because my medicaid had stopped. Now that I got approved again, I am going to see the Doc in Nov. Hopefully, he can put me on something stronger. In the meantime, I am receiving couseling.

Drinking lots of water and eating high protein food helped the concerta end-of-day hunger fade a bit for me.

hi i am new and here; does anyone have a better description of the effectiveness of concerta? Maybe a comparative description between the big 3 time-release meds (adderalXR, vyvanse, and concerta). I have been on XR close to 3 years and my doc is recommending a change so, is concerta right for me?

@ Andrew:
I don’t want to start any problems but "Dr. Weathers" is a Quack! I suffer from a proven neurological disorder, and thanks to people like Dr. Weathers, I also suffer a barrage of eye rolling followed by “isn’t that just an excuse?” I can’t concentrate on “video games, TV shows, a normal length movie, a game of ping pong…” any better then I can concentrate on “undesirable” tasks.<O:p</O:p
Yes, I understand there is a general lack of discipline in our country, and many parents actively seek excuses for their children. But I am not a parent making excuses; I am an adult who feels guilty for not being “motivated enough to concentrate.” <O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Please excuse the rant… I know it is not necessarily your viewpoint; Dr Weathers just gets under my skin!<O:p</O:p

I disagree with the authors perspective. The reason video games are so compelling for so long, I would argue, is that the rewards from video games are so clearly laid out and achievable with time, rather than some secretive nonesense he eluded to.

Thanks, Anonone, for that post. You've just made me realize why I'm so prone to being distracted. It offers instant results. I might use this revelation in my studies somewhere... :D

It appears that the page has changed some since that link was posted, and once on the page, there is another link that my browser can't open. Maybe someone knows another way to reach it? It seems you all go to read some information I can't get to. :(

I completely agree. looking at his website, his intro has things like this: "Be forewarned that ADD is not a real disease, but rather a contrived illusion of a disease, a marketplace tool...it remains an illusion of a disease--a powerful, dangerous illusion."

Dr. Weathers promotes an idea that keeps people affected by ADHD from getting help they may very well need. Yes, a lot of people can be misdiagnosed with ADHD, but you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater! I just find it annoying that we are citing as a source for information a guy who essentially accuses this entire forum and everyone on it of being liars.

On another note about Concerta, is there any source that shows the release mechanism and timings/percentages of the different releases? I know that there is an outer coating of instant release methylphenidate, but nowhere seems to put that in writing.

Hi Koric:

I don't know if you found the answer to your question about the release timing(s) and mechanisms for Concerta, but have you tried Wikipedia? I used it to look up Adderall, and it does mention Concerta and the time release thing, as well as links to a more in-depth article about the med. If I remember correctly it does describe how it works.
