Quick question. If you have ADHD... what do you think about video games? Love it? Hate it? Can't get enough of it.... don't you dare turn it off!

Just curious.

For me, there is a absolute Facination with video games.

We're a big video gaming family, but most of us enjoy different types of games. I'm a big fan of puzzles, so I can get sucked into Tetris, Bejeweled or Mario-type games. My latest obsession has been Spongebob Underpants, lol.

We all like Guitar Hero, but my husband is really into war and racing games, which bore me.

I'll get addicted to a game for a few days or weeks, but then my interests pitters out until a new one comes along, or I'm bored enough to go back to an old one.

I love to watch rather than play
to see improvements in VR engines

spent a good few minutes in a shop recently gazing at halo 3
trying to work out where I'd like to see more reality

and I seem to remember staring into the water of some lake in the game -
- hoping for more realistic wave forms

of course alongside fluidity of character motion -
of course

in GTA vice city
don't like the character motion
but think that that might be my substandard PC doin' the talkin'

:-)

so fascination with better VR
not geek perspective - more for that all over realistic total immersion effect -

gameplay wise though - I was raised with the original Atari games console
- and so that's where I stay -

brain off
meditation to repetitive motion

I play the same football game over and over and over, and have no interest in any other games.

I love video games :) always have.

I think it's probably a high stimulus activity which is why so many ADDers like them. I used to be only be able to concentrate for 10-20 minutes in slow moving games but ever since I've been treated for ADD I can spend way too much time :( I've always had no problem spending a ridiculous amount of time with fast paced/action games.

It depends on the video game. I'm more into the fast paced action games as well, though most anything in the racing genre is outside of my ability. I used to be into FPS type games for PC's, though it seems that even that area is becoming more popular on consoles. I haven't had a console since mine was confiscated by my parents for being "zombified" by it, which was many years ago.

I'm the same .. I love the alternate reality that they can provide .. same way that I love books and movies, as imagination boosters.

My first experience with something like this was a flight similator that had a bug in it. When you flew in a straight line for long enough you could "get lost" ... i.e. never find your place of origin again .. and that had a strange attraction to it. Also, if you took a certain route then this island would magically appear .. and when taking other routes it would not be there at all .. that was magic!

But the games in which you have to do things like find something or accomplish tasks and, worse, have to fight or, worst, have to act nervous to dodge and duck and jump and shoot etc .. no thanks. They bore me after minutes.

My ideal game would be like exploring the universe and discover really weird and strange and wonderful things .. landing on other planets and seeing things ... Maybe celestia (http://www.shatters.net/celestia/)
is the best game there is for me. It just needs to show relativistic effects ...

Games are big in our household. Board games, card games, video games...we play them all.

DW is a big fan of Risk, Monopoly, Canasta, Texas Hold 'Em, Crash Team Racing, ...

I'm personally engrossed in Mass Effect--I love these sort of games.

Of late, DW is spending nearly all of her time playing Attack! on Facebook (it's a dodgy Risk clone).

I'm a massive computer game fan.

I adore RPGs (Fallout, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Bloodlines, etc).

Yeah, another Baldur's Gate fan!!! Try Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds. Best game ever.:D

Nasty thing about RPGs is that I always get stuck in some kind of boss battle. I am really not that good at computer games and it bores me immensely to play the same scene over and over again (plus I just hate "dying"). So IMO the best games are those that come with cheats which allow you to just get that part over with and enjoy the rest of the game. Oh, and I'm with Luthien on the crouching/hiding; can't stand it.

I like video games. Mostly RPG or MMORPG's. I have played UO, EQ, Starwars ,Balders gate, Zelda, and WOW. I am sure there are others that I am forgetting. I also really like Civilization. I only play for short periods of time, maybe a month or so.Then I get bored. My hubby is addicted to WOW, so every so often I will pick it up for a little bit.
I also like fighting games like Tekken. In high school the guys hated it when I would win. HA!

I loved the idea of placing your own favourite locations and people into
Wolfenstein

the use of real locations in
Project Gotham City

and just swmming around aimlessly in
Ecco

during GTA - my wife and I didn't really like to do any of the bad stuff -
so we just went for a run
(in vice city there are some nice hills)
we felt tired afterwards too
:-)

and #1 at 4 yrs at the time - used to enjoy standing on top of a car and just lookin' around
- real sweet the moon in gta and 'rain effect' too
#1 was worried that the character might catch a cold when it started to rain - and he wanted us to go inside until it stopped.

Well here's another sign that yes, indeed I do have ADHD because I love video games too! Generally I perfer the puzzle types (tetris, bejewelled) but I can't say no to an 'action' type game either.

My husband has always been an avid gamer....mostly computer...and since i never played them, i didnt understand how addicting they can be. i used to get mad that he was spending all his free time interacting with something that wasn't even real.

Then about a month ago, i came accross a game, and now i'm addicted. lol Good thing we have two computers.

I'm not good enough quick enough, so I get bored. I don't have the patience to sit down and learn controls properly etc, surprise surprise!

very addicted to games - both video and board. ever since atari. prefer pc games to console games, though. sims, roller coaster tycoon, zoo tycoon, german style board games i.e. ticket to ride, carcassonne, & settlers, and of course, all those stupid video games that are distributed online now, like diner dash & cake mania, etc. as a kid, i would often end up playing vg with the brothers of my friends instead of playing with my friends.

But, mom, I NEED my Joystick or I'll go insane ..........

Son, you're practically eligible for social security benefits available at age 59 1/2. Medicare Part B will pay for your extended stay.

Some mom you are ... :( Let's see who'll be sucking on creamed corn and slurping green pea soup in assisted living first!!! Ha!!! :D

I love RPG's and SSX Tricky and Lego Star Wars! Rar! *imitates light saber noises* *also is a girl* I actually frequently attack my coworkers at the bookstore with my PDT (portable data terminal) (about the size of a really old 80's style mobile phone) as if it were a light saber or blaster. I'm glad I work with nerds. :) But I really want to play Endless Ocean. Sometimes games with no point are great. Oh and Psychonauts is awesome! And of course GTA3 and Vice City.

I don't like playing FPS or War games, I just kinda suck at those. I don't like not being able to get through levels. Like after I die maybe 20 or 30 times I say "Thats it!" and call a friend to do it for me.

(*)Spiff really wants to play video games now, but it's 2 A.M. and she should probably be sleeping instead.(*) Boo.

Plus I'm using my PS2 as a DVD player at the moment and the Wii is downstairs so that wouldn't work. Sigh. I guess I'll build a LEGO catapult and go to bed. ;)

I also like LEGO's and jigsaw puzzles, and french crossword puzzles, and lateral thinking puzzles, and drinking games, and scrabble, OH and Scattergories! I love that game! I wanna have a party now! And Burning Monkey Solitaire. I love those monkeys! and MORE LEGO's!!!! I am SO wired now from thinking about games! Oh and those wooden models of things that you punch out and assemble, like dragons or dinosaurs or the human skeleton. Those are fun.

Oh yes, video games are great. Put me in front of a good game that challenges me and I'll be there for days/months... I can only wish I spent all that time and effort in school :(
