View Full Version : Need advice .. please
Years ago I was diagnosed with cyclothymia and last fall I was really down so my GP sent me to a Psy and I was told that I had cyclothymia, chronic tics and ADHD.. I realized that my mother also had chronic tics, cyclothymia and OCD..All most lightly though.
My daughter has 3 kids and the middle boy is anxious and when he talks he wants to say it all at the same time and it never come out right although he's very smart.
So when I got out of the Psy's office I ran to my daughter's and the son in law was there. So I told him I now knew what had been my problem all these years and with my big big mouth told him that his son might have the same as me as its genetic. That created a shockwave and he has never been the same since then.
I now know that I've always been extremely impulsive and many times it got me in trouble. I dont know how to approach this situation. Should I talk to him about ADHD and its the illness that caused me to act..
I dont really know how to deal with this I feel that best advice would come from here.
Thanks sooo much
Don't worry about assholes.
Vinton, give it time and see what happens. Is your daughter o.k. with the information?
She denies completely the diagnostic.
Then she too is an idiot listening to the societal views...

Woodbury 03-19-08, 06:50 PM You did nothing wrong. You were trying to help. Talk to him, and explain where you are coming from. Admit that you could be wrong about this, but keep in mind that he is definitely wrong in refusing to even acknowledge the possibility of you being correct.
If he can't accept that, then he is letting fear and emotion control his decisions, rather than logic and reasoning. Acting like that will only cause more problems for him, if he won't confront the issue then things will just get worse for him.
texasmissb 03-19-08, 06:56 PM If both of the parents are in denial there isn't much you can do. You could apoligize for the way you blurted it out and maybe explain to them that you were excited to finally be diagnosed. I'm currently reading Healing ADD by Daniel Amen and there are lots of pictures of SPECT images of ADHD brains and families with the same areas of over or under activity. This book really drives home that this is real and there is a very high probability of genetics playing a role. Some of the images are 3 generations!
Well I'll be honest!!
I've had MS for 35 years and although it does not show..I've always been suggested to keep quiet about it and especially when my daughters were teen. My wife told me that it could scare boy friends.
So the same scenario reappears.. keep it hidden..
I've been married 40 years and happy except for this so I guess it could be worse...lol
On the other hand, from now on I will take a different attitude and to push my way around.
Its not fare for some sick to feel guilty about it.

Not as bad as ADHD to be honest.
See when you have MS people dont pick on you, dont judge you and heck! they dont bother you as with ADHD I have to watch everything I say, the way I behave cause my brain runs before I think and it got me in more trouble than MS.
In conclusion, there are many times that I would have traded it all for a wheel chair..lol

This book that I'm reading Healing ADD (I hate to keep going on about it but its too cool) anyway this ADHD doc has many case historys of trying different drugs and drug/combos and finally finding the right mix. Some people respong well to supplements, diet change, bio-feedback and exercise. Vinton please keep trying also check out the medication part of the board and you can see patterns of what you probably wouldn't want to take. There is a thread on concerta I believe, Hugs to you!
