Hi to everyone,
My doctor suggested I'd try Dexedrine Spansules.
From your experience, which generic do you find to be the best (Barr, Mallinckrodt, etc)?
Thanx a lot

I got some Barr 10mg spansules today. I will test them out and tell you how they work.

Yeah, please let me know.
Have you tried other spansules? or this is the first time you are trying them?
Have you heard anything from others about it?

I guess I want to know because I've heard that with the IR kind there seems to be difference between the different generic kinds.

Anybody else have/had experience with Dexedrine Spansules?
Let us know & thank you

It is my first time taking the spansules. My other ADHD med. experience: Strattera, Wellbutrin XL, Ritalin, Adderall, and Vyvanse.

I took 2 of the 10mg dextroamphetamine spansules one hour before work. Within 10-15min I could feel it working. Slight euphoria. I walked outside my house about 25 minutes after taking the initial dose, and everything seemed more lucid and bright outside. I felt a major reduction in impulsiveness. I actually didn't mind driving the speed limit. I felt focused, vision dead center, but still very aware of what was happening around me. I tried turning my head quickly to recenter my focus on other things outside and I got a bit dizzy. Felt really confident/powerful walking into work. Something just felt different about it. At work, I was focused and accomplished more work than I probably would have without the pill. ADD symptoms were eliminated. Also the anxiety, dry mouth, muscle tension, that I experienced on Adderall IR were eliminated as well. Dextroamphetamine definitely increases my confidence and it affects the way that I carry myself (literally). Dextroamphetamine is by far the best ADD medicine I have tried yet. This is the only brand that I have tried with the spansule.

From my experience between the name brand Glaxo Smith and Kline stuff (Dexedrine) and Barr 15mg spansules, the name brand stuff is about five times better. The Barr spansules gave me nausea when I took two together, and left me feeling 'edgy' like Adderall at the end of the day. No good. They felt like I had consumed too much coffee and made me anxious as well, also NO GOOD. I don't know why, maybe it has something to do with the purity of the product or binders and fillers they put in it.

Anyway, whatever the reason all I know is brand name Dexedrine spansules don't give me nausea, do not give me that edgy feeling, and feel as smooth as a pane of glass.

Dexedrine spansules are exactly what I expected them to be, Barr generics were crap (IMO). Dexedrine is a lot more expensive however, so as far as generics go I only know about Barr and I do not recommend them unless you like the sped up Adderall feeling. Bleh.

I know you're asking about generics, but these are the only two versions of the med that I have taken so I thought I would compare and contrast them for you, hope it helps :)

Thanks for both of you for the information.
I was asking because I once tried adderall generic by Barr and it was terrible. I couldn't tolerate it , but I could tolerate the brand much better.

The problem with getting the brand is that many insurance companies don't pay for it, and if they do , it is quite a procedure to get it approved.

I read in some posts that as far as the IR dexedrine is concerned, some gererics are very close to the brand (people here say Mallinckrodt is). So I was wondering if people have such knowledge or experience with the spansules.
I am just trying to save myself from getting sick.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks, Lotus_eyes

http://www.fda.gov/cder/ob/ (http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/tempai.cfm)

According to the FDA Orange Book, the generic spansules received an AB rating while the generic instant release tabs got an AA rating.. interesting..

so spansules seem to be better than the ir? My doc told me no one liked the sustained release.

What does AB and AA rating mean?
Which one is better?

I think lots of people find IR gives them more control. I'd prefer it quite a bit myself, I can't do anything with my dose with the spansules to suit different kinds of days, it's either take it in the morning as early as possible so I can still get to sleep at night, or not at all. Some doctors are either convinced that everyone hates IR because you have to remember the pill 2 or 3 times a day instead of once (I wouldn't care), or they just say that because it puts more attention on them to prescribe IR pills because they're easily crushed and snorted (so more street value). Honestly I'm still a bit insulted regardless of the reason, but my doctor really doesn't want to give me IR tabs. As if someone couldn't abuse a bottle of 30 extended release pills if they wanted to. :S

Anywho. Brand-name Dexedrine spansules is what I take and it's fairly cheap and it's effective. Apparently the DextroStat name isn't as effective. My pharmacy doesn't carry generic spansules so I wouldn't know, but even brand-name spansules are way cheaper than any Adderall or the other "newer" drugs.

My experience with Barr 15mg and Mallinckrodt 15mg spansules. The Mallinckrodt were by far superior. Strangely the Barr 10mg and Mallinckrodt 10mg spansules were about the same.

I thought Barr was the only manufacturer of Dexadrine now? You guys can get GSK Dexedrine? I'd definitely buy that if I had the choice...

Yes, you can purchase the GSK stuff but the price tag is 3+ times more than the Barr generics.

In my opinion, the extra price is worth it to not feel like crap for an entire month.

My pharmacy tried telling me the whole shpiel (sp?) that Barr was the only manufacturer nowadays too, so I asked to speak with the manager and she ordered the GSK stuff for me. Definitely worth the hassle.

darius, I was reading what you said and I came across where you said you had tried Ritalin and Adderall before trying the Dexedrine Spansules. So my question is what have you noticed in the difference between the Dexedrine Spansules vs. the Adderall(what ever form you took).

I am wondering because currently I have just got done trying all the forms of METHYLPHENIDATE, IE; Concerta, Methyln etc. And it seemed to work well, but only for a few days after every time we raised the dose.

So now my doctor and I decided to switch my medication to Adderall XR, and I have been using 20mg capsules (brand name) everyday for the past 12 days, and I have not noticed one day where I had improved concentration, or could sit still for a longer time and become less fidgety...

So I am wondering if it would be possible for me to have success with the pure form of the DEXTROAMPHETAMINE(Dexedrine), because I know Adderall XR is 3/4 of the same drug.... So I had no effects with Adderall, so would it be worth it to give the Dexedrine a try?

Thanks buddy.
