View Full Version : I haven't fallen off the face of the earth..
LOL .. i just thought I would pop on here for the few of you i have recently met on here for support. I mentioned before that I was undergoing a hip revision this month, and I did on Wednesday this week. Unfortuneately, there were a few complications that were not expected so It's not at all going as fast paced or as well. I should be in the hospital until Monday or Tuesday, and will get on here more each day I feel better. Morphine really knocks a person out plus I have had to have a blood trasnfusion which has made me also very tired. I will update you more in the next day or so... my meds are kicking in hahaha ..
Hugs to you all

That's tough, CatW. Get well soon.
Just for the record, morphine doesn't knock me out.
ADDAWAY 03-22-08, 02:44 AM Only on a good day can the devil (with all his fallen archangels pushing) knock Imnapl down!

Let me clarify for you all...
Im playing on my laptop while I sit here in her hospital room. My wife, CatW, just went through a hip revision surgery. She had a total hip replacement at 22 and it was time for a new one again 10 years later.
Pretty major surgery. They ended up not just doing a new hip but replacing EVERYTHING,,, They did a bone graft on her pelvis to fix the area where a cyst had formed. They also shortened her leg to make them both level as with the last surgery her femur was too long I guess. They removed the old prosthetic femur and replaced it with a new one. (They cut it out and put in a new one!! A FEMUR ACK!) The polyurethane cup in her pelvis was worn out and needed replacement. It was replaced as well as the screws. The new cup has a newer, more modern technology liner in it and should last for around 15 years this time.
She wont be able to put weight on it for at least 6 weeks they say... The road to recovery is long but she will be better than she has been in years when the healing is done. So once she is released from this hospital next week, she will be transferred to a rehabilititaion clinic where she will stay for around 14-21 days before she can come home.
Oh yeah, and her blood transfusion would really be considered 4, since she has had 4 bags of blood since wednesday.
CatW's husband,
Greg
WOW GREG...thanks for giving us the real scoop. I wish her a speedy recovery and you the strength to manage everything while she's laid up. Bless you both. (CatW...rest as much as possible so that you can be as good as possible).
QueensU_girl 03-22-08, 12:41 PM wow. that is serious surgery.
hope you guys monitor her Hemoglobin and Serum Iron.
(Some ADDers and seemingly 'demented folks' are actually anemic; that makes attention terrible.)
Low Iron in women is the most common Deficiency in the world, eh?
Last week I got my blood tests back -- Hemoglobin was 11 and Serum Iron was 14.
No wonder I felt so terrible! (racing heartbeat, short of breath, no concentration, aching calves, buzzing feet, etc)
Get well soon!
thanks all of you for your warm wishes, support and prayers..
my hubby is such a good man to give the update. of course, when i am on morphine, i can't think through enough to give the proper detail.
speaking of which, it's kicking in again haha, so i think i should try to dose off for a few before they start sticking me with needles again ...
again thank you for the support and love.. we will keep you updated as much as possible..
HUGS

update:
well, it is nearing 2 weeks after this grand ordeal, and I am finally at home.
I was able to come home on Friday. I was sooo excited. The PT said that because I was able to get up and walk with the aid of a walker and go as far as I did, that I would not be eligible for the inpatient rehab, and if I were to be authorized, it would be for but a day or two. So I talked to my surgeon to see if I could just go home. I was already missing my home and my family. For some people being at home makes it easier and better to recooperate.
I have a therapy company who will be out starting tomorrow with the first blood draw (i am still on blood thinners for 3 weeks) and then wednesday is my first day of in home therapy. The nurse will come twice a week to draw blood, and the physical therapist will come three days a week. This does not sound fun to me lol ...
I am still on toe touch non-weight bearing, so I have crutches, a walker and a wheelchair that I have to deal with for a the next couple months. Then after 6 weeks of just toe touch, I will have 6 weeks of partial weight bearing to train my leg to be able to walk with out aid... *sigh* .. this is going to be alot longer than what I anticipated. However, on a more positive note, I am grateful that I didn't lose my leg and the surgeon was able to replace the whole area with better components. I think after all this is said and done, I will take a dance class, go on a horseback ride or find something that I haven't been able to do. :)
Just so you know, my son seemed to handle the whole situation very well. I have switched his strattera to evening, and his zertec to mornings. So far his teachers said that he is doing much better. As a matter of fact, last week, (before i came home) he only lost 5 points for the whole week as compared to the 16 and the 14 points he's been losing weekly. I told him that it would help mommy to know that he was doing his best at school. Aparently the situation may have helped in some way. He loved "camping" at the hospital, and visiting. I was very surprised, and very grateful.
Anywho, that's all for now :) I feel a lil tired from the darvacet.. i think i will take a nap! :)
I'm glad that you're home. Happy recuperation!! Thanks for the update.
So recovery is going well. PT said I am doing fantastic with my range of motion and all.. She will continue to come for another 2 weeks and then its out patient for me for a while.
I got permission to drive my kids to and from school which is nice for me to get out of the house on my own. Still on crutches and will be for the next 8 weeks. Fun fun .. NOT!
Anywho, I go back to the doc in 2 weeks for another X-Ray to make sure all peices are still in place. I dont know if I would be allowed to show my x ray here? If so, its actually quite interesting!!
Thanks Cat....get better soon, so you can enjoy summer with kids. :)
For sure! Thanks!
You're welcome!!
