WhADDa ya' think about a little annual ADDFer convention in some sunny spot with lotsa things for us to do -- an ADDFer's Disneyworld -- Vegas? South Beach? New Orleans? Playa de Carmen? Infected Cruise Liner? :cool:

We reserve a block of rooms (if we remember to do so), put all the first names in a basket and then randomly hand out the name tags. Then, we just gotta figure who's who from our inside inforumation. No obvious outfits please (e.g., a topless Tracy H. with a pink skirt & high heels). :p

I think it's a good idea. Sounds like fun, although I would prefer/vote for a mountain getaway with cool morning air, and lots of wildlife & plants around me long before I would ever want to pay any money to hang out in a place like South Beach, or Las Vegas.

Maybe ADDF could do something there or near the ADDA conference the same weekend. I think that the rooms for the ADDA conference are $139 per night. I know that people always find lower priced rooms too at near by hotels too.

In the past ADDA has had conference scholarships avialable too.

Well, I personally prefer quiet nature-type vacations, but a group event on a mega cruise ship or Disney or whatever gives more opportunities to escape a crowd unnoticed. ;)

San Diego would be nice(and pretty close to me! :))...I want to meet a few females on this forum.....also; Brakna, NickL, and a few others(forgot their names!:))

I think it's a great idea, but a lot of us inattentive types would find it hard.

Besides, we're not all from the US.... so it kinda counts a lot of us out.

our Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is just that...international. i've travelled all over the world, and with few exceptions, have gotten affordable non-stop flights...just sayin' :p

i got the hookups at my job. i work for the Marriott. I can get huge discounts at a Marriott resort ($400/night rooms for $40-$80) even less if its not a resort. And to my knowledge, as long as im there signing in, there is no cap to the amount of rooms i can reserve.

Just a thought...

I wouldn't mind meeting some of you all but $139.00 a night is a little steep for me {okay it is asinine} I would prefer the plastic bag float with the pink high heels easy on the crocks but I am wearing a shirt - I need lots of shade over lots of sun shine - been to Vegas got married there- last year - I do like wild life more than slot machines - the slot machine humming drives me crazy unless I drink then I am crazy any way and no one notices including me - okay I would prefer an activity where I didn't have to be bailed out of jail . . . especially if in a forgien country while wearing pink heels.

to video workshops - shift to on-line conferences - with video streamed live via the academic backbone -
- throughout the world -

live debates on science
all that sorta' thing

- as the best option for all of us - especially the poor old mommas and poppas of this world who can't leave home for a period due to the demands
of 1 - 12 year old male and female humanoid and doggonoid Eartharians who require supervision
- especially so crossing the busy roads which we seem to have everywhere these days

... ... and it occurred to me that the wall of antagonism which met these suggestions -
were through not wanting the important people of science to be deprived of their free trip around the world
- to visit a foreign country.

The foreign conference has become a bribe in the scientific world -
if you're 'good' you can go to this conference -
it's not even on yor continent.

If I had my way -
I'd try and make the Internet backbone as thick as possible, as many people as possible with a computer (the Lars EEE thread and 'notebook for life' on wikiP) and -
my favourite (techy) bit -
a technology which maximises quality -
the *point* of the communication -
by minimising the data transfer burden of pointless information
- for instance -
do we really need to see a speaker in a scientific lecture ?

perhaps a low res video (for no particular reason) -
with the emphasis switching to slighter more clarity of transmission of his slide presentation and then her voice (in that order)-

- though of course - the online presentation servers (like thinkfree) can be used to serve up presentations -
(so we could preload)

Yeah some of us Australian ADDers (Fuse, Selena, etc) were talking about meeting up for real. I speak to those two on the phone a fair bit. There's a bunch of us that all live within about 1-6 hours of each other... QLD and NSW... if you're interested, send me a message!
