Just wondered if anyone else as they grow older becomes more eclectic in the music they listen to? I have noticed I find myself appreciating some of the music types my parents listened to when I was a kid. Back then I really did not want to listen to it. Even several of the artists from my era, are performing some of the old standards, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt and Manilow to name a few.

I find myself appreciating more styles and genres such as Big Bands, The Vega years, ie Rat Pack, Bluegrass, anything from the 60's 70's, 80's and some stuff from the 90's. I find myself listening to more of the blues singers like Joplin, Gary Moore and others.

Not sure if its a case of reminising, being sentimental of the past or just plain growing up.

Well, i wasnt around for the 60's, but in the 70s. My mother had all these records and when she wasnt home i used to play them. Heart, Fleetwood Mac...things like that. As a teenager, i got into the 80s bands. lol Def Leopard, Ozzy, Poison...the bigger the hair the better then. As an adult, it has varied. i like lots of different kinds. Garth Brooks, Shaniah Twain, Puddle of Mudd, System of a Down, Bach, Alanis Morsett...the music kinda changes to fit the mood im in.

In some ways i do like more mellow stuff, but not all of the time. I still like to rock out as they say, but as much to some of the new stuff, more the classic rock like styx, eagles, reo, rush, boston and so on. I do like good country and good blues and jaz. I like so many styles there is not just one I follow.

It seems to me not only does our taste in music sort of mellow but the radio stations often tailor their music choices to attract certain age groups. Some of our music choices hinge on nostalgia and I also believe as we get away from that peer pressure mind~set we find that's okay to develop individuality and so our tastes in music also broaden to encompass more than what we listened to as teens.
I love listening to not only the music of the late 60's through the 90's but I also enjoy Classical, Light Jazz, Soft Rock, some Reggae', New Age.....etc.

As Lionel Richie said: "'Let the music play....!'"
I say, Right~On! LOL!!!!
Yup, I grew up in that:

Music is what keeps me sain. I like real bizzare electronic stuff(a lot of genres from; electronica, old school electro/hip hop, to downtempo/chill out, ambient, etc)..ambient is something I got into in my early 30s. Very refelective,"meditational" music(pretty much instrumental without beats). Great for nightime and dreary rainy days. I'm on a lot of music email lists. I went through a period for a LONG time when I was buying at least a few cds a week. Now its mostly downloadable mp3s on the net. I miss cds and albums.

Ahhhh another child of the 70's era. Brings back memories, Watergate, Vietnam, Kent State, Disco, Gas Crisis, from .32 to .65, Jimmy Carter and who can forget the 55 MPH speed limit..........The end of muscle cars as we knew them:mad:, Now back to the topic.....

Anyway, you may want to try out a website called www.pandora.com (http://www.pandora.com) Its a library of music they call the Music Genome. You can create your own type of station(s) and then play one at a time or a mix of them all. Its actually pretty cool and it's free!

My music choice has gone so weird I can only listen to it when I am on my own. Family and friends comments are unwanted.

Buddha chants etc.

Check this out. Please give it time to load.

Everytime my 2 year old hears music, he says, "Dance?" and he starts dancing. Did that with this song too...for two seconds. Then I suppose he figured it wasn't good to dance too. LOL. He even tried dancing to Beethoven.

I started out listening to my parents stuff. Late 50's,60's stuff. Mostly pre-Beatles. That's when they had cassette tapes in their car and 8-track player at home. Herman's Hermits I started loving because of the 8-Track. Then my brother had a tape with "Betty Davis Eyes" and those kind of songs on it. Those songs remind me of swimming pools. They used to have the radio on at the public swimming pools. But A-Ha was my first band I really liked. Morton Harket!!!! And then the Monkees because of MTV and Nickelodean. And Madonna, Bruce, John Cougar, Prince, etc. Evolved into Bon Jovi and Headbanger's Ball on MTV. Not much into the real fast thrash but I do like some. Give me the big hair!!!! About the same time, I started watching Lawrence Welk with Grandpa. You know that Joey (can't think of his last name) of Nelson's band? (as in the Nelson twins. Joey had the red hair) His mom was one of the Lennon Sisters on the Lawrence Welk Show. Cathy or Peggy. Forgot which one. That's how you can connect, hmm.. Gene Simmons with Lawrence Welk. KISS's (Gene of course) guitarist at one time was Vinnie Vincent. Vinnie Vincent's Invasion had Bobby Rock on drums. Bobby played in a band (Nelson) with Joey Cathcart (there's his last name) who's mom was in Lawrence's show. Anyway! And then I liked the 60's and 50's. A teeny bit of rap for me and I liked some country. Some gospel. Sad to say but....the last band I really got into was......(can I hang my head in shame?)Hanson. And I was in my 20's! Now, I'm not much into 90's (except for hairband of course!) music or newer. I like more country. Getting into jazz (New Orlean's type. The faster stuff), classical, New Age, and I'm finally appreciating the 70's stuff. Rap? Nah. Uh, what else? Sometimes other country's music. I have a couple Mexican CDs, French, Italian. I got a Luciano Pavaratti CD finally (right before he died). Phantom of the Opera. Let's just say I'm really diverse. Just don't ask me who the Jonas Brothers are. All I know is they're kids, selling out shows (hey, Hanson used to also!) and they were on Dancing with the Stars the other day. And one has big eyebrows. Or high eyebrows or whatever that conversation was.

Glad to be of help! LOL. "Anna one, anna two". "Wunnerful, wunnerful!" "The sweetest music this side of heaven" was that Guy Lombardo? Memories... My mom disliked a lot of my music. LOL. It was mostly her dad's music or the heavy metal. I LOVED music.

I was a teenager in the late 80's early 90's. I always thought that People got kinda 'stopped' in their coolest years. Like I had this one kid tell me that my out fit was very 90's...Must have been my shell toe Adidas and my track suit...shows how much HE knew, that was very late 80's!
My tastes did change though, I no longet think Newkids on the block are cool...although Mark Wahlberg is on "my List" (and if anyone knows what that is a reference to...tell me and you will get bous points);)
BonJovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, and Green Day still rock it for me!
Boy did I just backtrack!! ;)
