It's too bad people abused Dexedrine back when it was in Dexatrim... It helped me with my ADD symptoms, and I started working out and losing weight for the first time in my life! Sadly, my new doctor did not believe in Dex for Rx's, so I was put on Ritalin SR, and it didn't do as much good. <sigh>

dear Unreal,

I have been in the EXACT SAME situation as you. The doctor didn't "believe" in Adderall, probably because he was scared for his own license for overprescribing it in the past, and put me on Ritalin SR.

Like you, it did NOTHING for me either! To make a long story short, I decided that I cannot be going to a doctor that refuses to treat me with medications that help me, so I found a new doctor. God knows there's enough of em out there!

Don't settle for being prescribed medications that you should not be on. This should almost be considered medical malpractice! It's not my fault or your fault that some druggies abused diet pills in the 70's, so why shoudl we have to suffer when we are taking the medication for a legitimate reason.

Let me know how this goes, because Dr.'s like this should be slapped with malpractice suits. If Adderall/Dexadrine worked then what was the big problem with keeping you on it??

I had the same problem with my old doctor, she didn't even know what Dexedrine was and she perscribed me the Ritalin 20 SR's. The next doctor I found wouldn't perscribe me Dexedrine and didn't even want to deal with Ritalin..he wanted to refer me to a psychiatrist, but my mom believes that they are the devil incarnate. I finally found a doctor who's had experience with Dexedrine and its made a huge difference so far, much better than Ritalin which I always rebounded on when it wore off.
I'm living in Halifax for a year and because so many people have gone and abused 'Rids' and 'Dexies', you can't get refills, you basically have to see the doctor every month for a new perscription unless they trust you enough to give you one perscription of 3 months worth of meds.
