Why am I continually repeating questions for reassurance? Even if I already know the answer to something I ask the question again. In class if someone ask if something is due, the teacher says Tuesday...I then ask again if it is due Tuesday. Does this have anything at all to do with ADHD? I find myself repeating questions then people get frustrated with me & I don't mean to be annoying.

When doing some tests with my psy, she told me that my "working memory" is really under the norm. I scored higher on every test where she was allowed to repeat the question.

It then hit me! For my whole life I used so many tactics to make people repeat what they where saying because I could not get it the first time. Either my attention was not set to listen to them, or too much information came to me in a short time. Now I understand my wife frustration at repeating herself! As for reassurance, at some point in my life, because I knew I would forget, I started asking my wife to remember me of my appointment or to do something... Just the fact of asking it was enough for me to remember.

I think it is related to ADHD.

I do that sort of thing also. I think for me it has to do with being scared to death that I'll forget something again, so I keep double checking my self. That's also why I'm at least a half hour early for everything. I'm so worried that I'll be late I've become somewhat OCD about getting everywhere way early.

Best practice for teachers is to say it and write it.

i do that all the time. Ill ask a question before i realize i know the answer to it, and then im like crap, now i have to hear them say it again.

Like others have said, it's a coping mechanism that we develop sometimes well before we know we have a memory problem.

I do it too!
