Re: Ritalin, WB, Abilify....pre-nursing student, college, please HELP!

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I have been on generic Ritalin for about the past 2 1/2 months, with a 8 mo. "holiday" from stimulants, which I used to take Ritalin XR which seemed to work better for me. Lately, I have been having troubles with the short acting medicine wearing off and the feelings I get 3-4x/day of the "crash" irritability, no motivation etc...I am also on Wellbutrin XR 150 mg/ day for depression, which has helped to somewhat lift (and the sunshine helps.):)

Also have had a rash on my head that itches, and lately more of my body. So I called my Dr. to let her know about these recent symptoms, as today was really bad! Just to have no call back at all! Not even the pharmacist could be of help. I am sooo irritated I could just scream! Esp. since I will be starting college again, tomorrow. (Which I have considered some of it to possibly be nerves, because of school.) And I have had to withdraw a couple of quarters, due to non regulation of my medications...and after reading most of the day today, I find that all my meds could cause a rash and or itching!!!

Anyone else having similar problems?? I keep seeing more pos. forums about the Adderall, than I do the Ritalin. Knowing people are affected differently, but wondering if I might get some help here from others that were on Ritalin and switched to Adderall or Concerta long acting or ? and may also have co-morbid conditions such as Depression and Anxiety?

Please Help! Thank you in advance.

Ourdestiny, are you taking regular release methylphenidate? If so, what is your dosing schedule?

Yes, I am taking the generic MALL regular release of the methylphenidate. 20 mg/ 3x/ day. And I just realized something, my pharmacist changed the Buproprion hcl (WB) from the purple SAND manufacturer pill to a white WATS pill, and I am wondering if the last 4 days of this hasn't precipitated the itching issue???

I have been having troubles with the short acting medicine wearing off and the feelings I get 3-4x/day of the "crash" irritability, no motivation etc...Have you tried taking a dose of methylphenidate at three hour intervals?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but Wellbutrin just went off patent a couple of weeks ago and there are several generics now in the marketplace. Maybe they use a different binder or base?

Yes, I was thinking about it last night and realized that my Wellbutrin generic brand had changed due to the pharmacy. Investigating new pharmacies that carry the old brand, to try this change 1st, but the other newest med is the Methylin reg 20 mg 4x/day tabs made by Mall***** and from what I have read online here, it has terrible side effects, and does not work as well as some other generics.
So ??? If I can get the regular Ritalin brand through my insurance, should I ?? Or should I consider asking the Dr. again about the extended release type again? Like Concerta? I have just wondered if this combination together that I have been taking, is causing these side effects. Anyways, I started school today and did NOT take the recent generic changed Buproprion as I had 2 of the old pills left, so I took one of them and less of the Methylin and do feel slightly better today.

How was school?

School was fine today, although I woke much later than had planned on! (what else is new!) I am currently taking a COM class where I just found out today that we will be in small and large groups all quarter and have to continually get up in front of the class! I dread the thought, because I too, get nervous and can hardly talk or it seems or feels like I am having an out-of-body experience, where I am standing next to myself while I am up there! I too tend to overachieve, end up being picked as the "leader" when I would rather not, and find that others will take advantage of the ones doing most of the work. UGH!!! So I will either get over this phobia in this class or have an anxiety attack and have to walk out...

But after my classes, I did more investigation about the meds and called the DR, but only spoke with the RN. She is going to bat for me with the doc about the med problem, and I called a variety of pharmacies to find out which manufacturers they carry. I will be picking up a weeks worth of my original WB, from a diff pharm, until the MH facility can get the situation figured out. THANKS FOR ASKING...HOW ARE YOU DOING???

It sounds like everything is working out for you. I'm good, thanks.
