I upped my dose from 2.5 mg to 5mg of dexedrine today (even though I was suppose to wait a week, because I started xanax yesterday)

I was fine for a couple of hours and then I started feeling some anxiety come on again so I took another xanax. Right after I took it I didn't notice it helping at all and had a panic attack for about 15 mins or so, then I was fine no anxiety at all.

Could it have been related to the adjustment of xanax and dexedrine at the same time, just a random panic attack, or just the stimulant itself?


I read about panic attacks and it did say that you can have them when adjusting to a dose on a stimulant.

xanax...will cause you more panic attacks in the long run if you take it everyday....go for klonopin...

are you serious????? ah I've been on klonopin in the past, it made me very sleepy. what else could I do?

Today I was in a really good mood, as I was yesterday , and my doctor has prescribed me to take it 3 times a day. Then a little bit before I took the third dose, like 3 hours after I took the second dose, I started feeling kind of just down on myself again. I'm actually suppose to wait like 4 5 or 6 hours before each dose, but I really didn't wanna feel bad for that long. I took another xanax and I'm still not feeling better.. I know it takes a little while to work but i don't like this up and down crap. it's confusing and I'm wondering if after a few days that my moods will even out more as I get into it or is xanax just a really bad idea for me already?

(ok right after I wrote that, I started feeling better,weird) ahhh meds... can't live with them, can't live without them.

You need to talk to your doctor about getting onto a Benzo. that lasts for a longer time than Xanax. Xanax is a type of Benzodiazepine (aka. Benzo) just so you know.

In my opinion Benzos shouldn't be used for longer than a week or two. If you take them for longer than that chances are you'll become physically addicted to them. Benzo addiction is definitely one of the worst addictions on the planet, if not THE worst. This isn't really the place for me to rant against chronic benzo use so I'll leave it at that :)

Talk to your doctor about getting on Vallium or Clonazepam. Or just ask him for something that lasts longer than Xanax.

You could compare Xanax with crack cocaine. They both hit you very quickly but don't last long at all. After taking it for a few weeks/months your body gets used to having a certain amount of that drug in your system.

(if you start to form a tolerance) - A few hours after taking the Xanax it starts to wear off and your body starts wanting more - this usually will trigger things like very high anxiety and panic attacks. You start needing a higher dose more often and this is where the problems can begin.

With the longer lasting benzos you only take one dose a day and it keeps you steady for the whole 24 hours. On Xanax it's constantly up-down-up-down

It's possible. Amphetamines and stimulants in general can create more anxiety which might lead to a panic attack.

What else can you do -
Go for a long walk or run. Exercise helps Anxiety a fair bit.
Find out where the Anxiety is coming from and maybe work over it with a counselor.
Cognitive therapy with a psychologist.

Did you drink any coffee or have any caffeine?

Any major stress at the same time you had the panic attack?

You could always try taking a lower dose of Klonopin or another of the long acting benzos. This will make you not as tired.

The best thing to do IMO is to stay away from the Benzos. Try everything else to treat your anxiety first. Cognitive therapy can be very helpful for anxiety and I recommend you try that out first.

Benzos are not suited to people with ADD. They make memory and distraction problems worse. They can take away your energy. They decrease mental alertness and cognitive functioning. They can decrease motivation.

do you think my psychiatrist doesn't know what the hell she is doing if she thought of xanax first?
