My life feels insane. Here I am unemployed, and I don't want to work for anybody. If I change my career, I could not pick a new one if it bit me on the butt. If I stay in the same line of work, I will be bored to death.

All I can say is that its good to be seeing my therapist tomorrow, and a vocational counselor next week.

But I hate to be sitting around! Argh!

Being bored to death is better than being unemployed & getting behind on your bills. Seriously, if you can get hired but are declining offers, then accept the job offer, look for another job on the side and take Adderall to keep your mind focused.

Changing careers, starting a business is completely impractical. People say it can be done, but don't say how. Most people would probably say (rightfully I am afraid) to use that money and hire a job coach for $75 an hour. On the other hand, most of these college & gov't vocational career counselors are seriously out of touch with the real world and think that all you need is a college degree, have a good resume & dress nice and you will have a menu of job offers.

Getting a job & getting hired is hard enough especially if you are not working and then have to rely on lying just to get an interview.

I have had so many jobs that are so unrelated. I am now self employed at two different part time jobs and help my boyfriend with his buiseness. If you have another interest I say pursue it but the way the econonmy is going, I wouldn't leave it without something else. Maybe if you add something else in your life, a college course, another part time job, or vollunteer at something your into.

I had so many crappy boring jobs on the way to where I am. it sucks, for sure...what do you love to do? take a crappy boring job and spend all the rest of your time learning how to do what you love, and trying to succeed at it. it took me less than five years to be comfortable in my chosen field...and that's way better than the rest of your life in boring jobs

Changing careers depends on what you want to do - the same with starting your own business - weather or not it is impractical would depend upon what you are seeking - if you are in fields with a high demand then it is hardly impractical.

Most people would probably say (rightfully I am afraid) to use that money and hire a job coach for $75 an hour

And a few would say you are out of your mind! $75.00 an hour for what???? If I am unemployed I have zero money coming in I would save my money and pay bills and buy food I wouldn't give some one $75.00 an hour unless they were a plumber. electrician, auto mechanic or some one who fixes stuff I must have - and can't fix my self. When one is unemployed it isn't the time st spend money {IMHO}

I know how to get a job I don't need a coach - a consoler I can see for those who are unsure about that they want ,like the member who began this tread but coach - some one to holds you accountable to job hunting goals - man starvation does that for me.

Apparently job coaching is in some demand -

This I can agree to - being bored is better than starving or being homeless -

Dog I find your candor refreshing. Yeah in this economy you need to find a job sooner than later -- but no one should say that is a desirable outcome.

Neo: You won't let it happen, you can't. You need human beings to survive.
The Architect: There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept.

I'm living near Mexican poverty levels (In Texas). Mexico beats Sierra Leone though.

The last 24 hours have been a trip. l was about to just give up on the hunt, but my life and brain are coming together.

Therapist: I whine, he says, to paraphrase: You are currently stuck between two worlds, the old one (pre-ADD) and the new one (post-ADD treatment with many new insights) we will do EMDR and get the old stuff to go away.

2 job referral calls, one for senior spot which I am not qualified for, so I talk to the hiring manager about other options. He says keep looking, and he understood my position, saying between me and a kid fresh out of school, he would pick me.

The other was from a recruiter who wanted me for a geography position, I told him I was a geologist, not a geographer. Oops!

I go on up to a nursery nearby (I was thinking about horticulture) turns out they pay $10/hour, no benefits.

Now I am getting it! I have been looking too high, too fast, and I have been ashamed to apply to lower positions. Onward, through the fog!

I would say self-employment is the way to go, I couldn't bear to do anything else!

Tell me about it. I would love to be self employed. But that is a pretty scary leap for me right now.

There's noway I could have started up a company and got all that stuff sorted out without my best friend. If you're interested in being self employed it's far less scary if you have a competent non-ADD friend to do it with! That way you can focus on doing the part you're interested in and let your friend sort out the boring, confusing financial and legal things XD
