On vyvanse the most noticable side effect I see is loss of appetite and insomnia
not to much of an improvement with focus/concentration but definitely a start. More of a calm feeling throughout the day.

I want to know has anyone tried vyvanse and adderall?
I want to know if Adderall has more loss of appetite and/or insomnia
than vyvanse does? and what are typical noticable side effects


Here's the story,

I was diagnosed with adhd hyperactive type
When I was 4, taking Ritalin then Adderall
Until I was 6. I stopped because my mom said I seemed to calm
And zombied out and she saw it definitely improved my hyperactivity
and left it at that. I cant really remember being on the meds but
definitely remembered being the complete opposite of being hyperactive.
School throughout elementary was a struggle but I managed with barely
b's and C's. I started middle school and things got worse.
I passed 6th with high C's and 7th with low c's.
I'm now 14 in 8th grade and cant keep up in school.
I lose focus to much and have numerous symptoms of adhd inattentive type
From what my dr has said recently when I went to seek treatment.
He said I had adhd inattentive type and My mom and I agreed with
Med treatment. He gave me a ritalin based med
focalin Xr and it really didn't work for me.
My mom told my dr that ritalin never worked for me and such
So he wanted to try adderall. My mom said I showed strange behavior
as a child and my dr said it could be because as being so young the
Side effects could have been less tolerable to a child than to an adolescent.
He took my moms word to consideration so gave me the new form of adderall Vyvanse. he started me off with 30 mgs and after the first 3 weeks
it wasn't as efficient. He said this is a sign that the dose is to low
so now I am on 50 mgs. I have taken the 50's since Sunday and it
kept me up all night for sunday and monday night taking another dose
In monday morning. I've been up since taking another dose in the morning
and I dont know If i should take it serious or not. My mom isnt much help
And my dr has a busy schedule that it takes a whole month to see him again.
I just had an appointment so I have to wait.
I think I want to try adderall next and see if it is more
efficient than vyvanse and want to seek the best posible
Treatment.
I heard stories that adderall is faster acting
and more efficient when treating add cases as well.

Hi there. I have a 16 year old who is currently taking 50 mg Vyvanse (less than a month). She had been taking 40 mg Adderall XR in the morning and 10 mg Adderall IR when she came home from school - but usually couldn't remember the afternoon dose, so she crashed and was crabby/unfocused when she needed to do hw. The Vyvanse really lasts a long time for her. When we tried increasing the dose to get better effects, it just lasted longer instead. So we're trying the 50 mg Vyvanse with 20 mg Adderall XR and that seems to be working pretty well for her.

Good luck. It can be a long process to find the right medication at the right dose. Don't give up. It's really worth getting it right.
