View Full Version : If you could change one thing about your body...

What would you change? Even if you want to be taller or shorter, doesn't matter. If that's what you would want changed, list it.

I get so jealous off of watching Dancing With The Stars. And practically everything and everyone else also. I have very bad knees. Ever since I was a kid. I'm only 35 and I can't run anymore. Squat? Forget it. Haven't been able to do that in ages. Even seeing people just squat down to pick up something off the floor gets me so jealous sometimes. They look so graceful. I've got long skinny (usually long legs are good. Mine are sticks with bony knees) legs and I feel like a giraffe when I pick up something off the floor. Yes, I'm complaining and whining. Sorry. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Speaking of my chest, never mind. LOL. That bugs me too but not as much as my knees. Someday I'm going to have to have knee replacements and I might be looking forward to it.....if that means I can have more flexiblity than I do now. I've got two young kids and one is a runner....and I have a hard time chasing him. Aerobics? Forget it. They usually involve knees. (I could probably get by just on stomach exercises but I'd rather move) Of course there's a lot of my body that I don't like but if I had to choose, it would be my knees.

I want to dance!!!!!!!! Let's not talk about my lack of grace!

What would you change?

Um...I'd make myself skinnier and hotter. I am 32 and look 18! :D

I'd like a "pear" shape body, not an "apple" shape :) and I'd love to be taller :)

I'd keep my legs though, just stretch them a tad and I'll be happy ;)

MJwatson
03-29-08, 03:29 AM
Yeah....I'd stretch myself out to taller and skinner and make myself blond with blue eyes...I settle for green though......:)

If I could push some of the excess fat (or whatever breasts are) to my legs, it would be nice. Flab? Take some of my belly and push it to my legs too.

I was reading online about knee replacement surgery and I about got started getting depressed. I guess I'll never run again. I should be happy I have legs and can stand upright and walk so I shouldn't really complain. They don't hurt...most of the time. I have some arthiritis but it's not constant. Anyway I suppose if one of the kids ran into the street with traffic coming, I'd probably run without thinking about it. An instant reaction thing.

I have, uh,. Well, my body doesn't have a fruit shape. LOL. Not even a banana. Giraffe on bottom and a cow (wow, first time I called myself a cow! I'm not that big but I'm not skinny either) with udders on top. Face? An ugly fruit! Just kidding. A peach or something round.

wow this is a sad post, but if i'm being honest, i'd have much longer legs, smaller kneecaps and ankles, and a cup size larger. in that order!!

uneek - i wish i had your problem! sounds like i have the exact opposite problem you have. i wish i could take some of the fat from my thighs and add them to my breast area! oh, wah wah... but you might try doing yoga. and i don't mean just stretching, but like really intense yoga (bikram is the best). you will sweat your "breasts" off and you'll tone everything up - with ZERO impact. it will even help your knees to get some mobility back. i have been a runner all my life but am now open to new exercises that are a little easier on the joints and i'm very pleased with the results!

Body fat percentage, because that would basically solve all of my problems. With my body fat percentage down, I'd be trimmer, leaner, healthier, and less jiggly.
And if I could be just an inch and a half taller, I'd be so happy you wouldn't believe it.

I'd like to have shorter arms. Finding clothes my size is a nightmare since the shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts that fit me in the shoulders won't have long enough sleeves and the lower part won't fit since they are all square. I swam 10 years straight while I was growing and I have a huge "V" shape back and arms that are way too long.

yeah.... thyroid diease sucks.... Hypo here since '95. Just a suggestion, Mary. Break up your cardio and do two separate ones. For example, just walk for 10 to 15 min in the am and then 10 to 15 min in the pm. What this does is give your metabolism a boost in the afternoon, buring more fat...compared to doing just one workout for 30 to 40 minutes at one time.

I've been in fitness for 15 yrs and I'm a personal trainer. I love helping folks w/ exercise questions. It's fun for me....no $$.

To all the ladies with big, uh, breasts....Why is it that a lot of guys like them big and Hollywood likes them big...But when it comes to us, we're too natural and floppy and nothing fits right. Maybe the only way to correctly get big ones is to have small by nature and get implants.

Why is this all appearance related? That makes me kind of sad.

I'd like to have a more capable body. e.g. I think that being a child raised in a smoking home meant I was never able to run as far or swim as fast or play soccer as far or fast as the other kids from healthier homes..

I wish that my body was a bit more symmetrical so that I didn't get knee pain on one side and have the odd back twinge, etc.

These wishes are more pragmatic and utilitarian, than 'appearance' related, etc.

For the most part, I am pretty pleased with my appearance and function and capacity. (Could have been cursed with the face of a horse that kissed a Mack Truck, etc.)

03-31-08, 01:28 PM
The only thing I'd change is my height. I'd go from 6'4 to 6'5-6'6 any day. Oh, and to have my forearms a lot tighter and more muscular. Those are a pain in the butt for me.

Sandy4957
03-31-08, 01:45 PM
Queens,

Whatchoo got against horses that kissed Mack Trucks? If I could get my horsey to kiss a Mack Truck, I'd be so proud of her that her face would be my favorite face of all!

(Actually, she's kissed a piece of "yellow iron," even as it was ticking and hissing and cooling off in the road after a long day of grading, so I guess I can be as proud of her as I want...)

You know, I've watched this thread and felt similarly to you, Queen. I don't have much that I'd like to change, not because I'm some sort of hottie, 'cause I ain't, but because it's just never mattered much to me. Curlier hair (i.e., just even a HINT of body to it?), yeah, maybe, but I'm part Native American, soooooo, c'est la vie. Bigger, ehems? No thanks (sorry Amykins and Scrooball...). I grew up in the days before sports bras, and all my large girlfriends were miserable in gym, so I came to really appreciate having mine in the itty bitty range that they are...

Ok, how about this: I wish that my ACLs (particularly my left ACL) were tougher so that I wouldn't have blown one of them out in soccer. Ah, oh, and I could do without this genetic thingy that makes my lower back sore and overflexed much of the time (but I'd avoid a lot of that if I just did my danged exercises for it...)

MJwatson
03-31-08, 01:52 PM
Oh, the boob thing wasn't about vanity...It really sucks. I hate them! They are alway in the way! I have a bad knee 1/3 of my lateral meniscus was removed and my kneecap is misaligned, so I have to tape it into place when I run, kayak, play volleyball etc. But the first thing I though of were my knockers! Keeping those things in place is more of a pain than taping up my knee!!

brewskijmu
03-31-08, 02:03 PM
agreed. i thought it was kind of sad too...of course there are things we'd all like to change. my feeling is, unless you're a celebrity or a model that gets paid to look perfect, who actually cares? i think i obsess more about my looks than anyone else cares. when i think about people that i like, i think about the kindness in their eyes or their smile, and rarely think about their body. but i am guilty of caring too much like some of the others on here.

about the sight thing though - i had lasik surgery a year ago and it's fabulous!! that is one thing you can change - it's a small price to pay for the miracle of perfect vision, IMO.

I think just the way my brain works when I am surfing with the younger girls. They have no body fat, but I have to keep reminding myself neither did I 10 years ago when I was 14. Haha!

I'm proud of my curves. I'm no supermodel (a classic hourglass size 12 with 10DD bust) but I'm healthy. I do exercise at least 5 times a week so I just figure this is how God made me :)

Hi QueensU_girl, Being cursed with oversized breasts is not just a vanity issue. It is a bona~fide medical condition that causes painful back, shoulder and neck problems, not to mention serious problems with posture and causes deep shoulder indentions. Hot humid weather causes itchy often painful rashes and not surprising it causes emotional problems due to the fact of the way society views women who wear larger bra sizes. There is nothing fun or funny to be viewed in an erroneous light because of heredity. Not to mention the embarrassing comments and catcalls that such a condition causes.
You mentioned not being able to run and etc. due to breathing in second~hand smoke as a child. That's sad but I too was robbed of some of my childhood because of early and quick breast development that brought on laughter and taunting that still haunts and hurts today. :(
I would much rather be judged by my character and personality than on a condition that is beyond my control but unfortunately our society puts too great a store in physical appearance so I hope you can see this is not just a matter of vanity that there are those of us who suffer both emotionally and physically all joking aside because of developing oversized breasts.

I saw this article and was reminded of this thread : http://www.smh.com.au/news/relationships/what-men-want-thins-not-in/2008/04/05/1207249536770.html

Executive summary: A men's magazine (i.e., they show pictures of air-brushed scantically clad women) surveyed their readers and the result was that men prefer the size 12-14 body size (10-12 US dress size).

More Australian men will choose size 14 over size eight when it comes to the body shape of their ideal woman, igniting debate on what it means to be thin.

Men's magazine FHM conducted an online survey asking whether its readers found a size eight, size 12 or size 14 model most attractive.

The survey drew 60,000 responses. Four-fifths said they were more attracted to the size 12 and 14 models than the size eight model pictured.

Most votes went to the size 12 woman, with 41 per cent of respondents saying she had the body shape of their "ideal girlfriend".

The size 14 body was preferred by 39 per cent, while the size eight came a distant third with 20 per cent.

FHM editor Ben Smithurst said the findings were good news for women.

"A piddling 20 per cent of readers selected our size eight model pictured as their ideal girl physique, while the size 12 and 14 models easily outscored their skinnier rival," he said.

"Which proves one thing, ladies: crack a beer, hoe into a hamburger and we'll love you just as much."

But Julie Thomson, general manager of eating disorders and body image campaigners The Butterfly Foundation, said such surveys were far more damaging to women than they were helpful.

"It objectifies women and still perpetuates this ideal that men do look at women externally only," she said.

Flinders University body image expert Marika Tiggemann said the findings supported academic research on the topic on female body image.

"We find women want to be thinner than what men find attractive," Professor Tiggemann said. "Men's idea of what is 'thin' is larger than that of women. Unfortunately, a lot of people think being thin demonstrates being in control or being disciplined, while being fat is a sign you're weak."

The editor of women's magazine Cleo, Nedahl Stelio, said that most women did not diet for men but for other women.

"Most men I know would go for more boob over thinner thighs, but women, by nature, are competitive with other women," she said.

"And if the society and celebrity ideal is thin, that's what she's going to aspire to, just to get one up on other women."

Ms Thomson said: "There is just far too much importance placed on size when you should be looking at a whole range of other aspects.

"From our perspective as an eating disorder foundation, those sorts of surveys are an issue because they are centred around judging people based on what size they are and it is really unhealthy to judge or view people in that way."

She said that women embarked on extreme diets or developed eating disorders for a number of complex reasons, and it was oversimplistic to attribute such behaviour to a bid to appeal to the opposite sex.

"People develop eating disorders for a wide variety of reasons, including low self esteem and family history of depressive illness," Ms Thomson said.

"It is very, very complex and it is certainly not just brought about because some people desire to be thin in some sort of effort to attract men."

Driver, this line of yours cracks me up: Pics or it didn't happen!

I gather that you perhaps didn't invent it, but I've never heard it before and it makes me laugh.

Yes, the whole weight thing is fascinating to me. Can't tell you the number of times I've heard men say that one friend of mine is "too skinny." It concerns me that Sarey is on this thread (plus whatever other young women may be "listening in") because young girls have incredibly distorted body images. It took me until roughly 40 years of age to come to realize that it's not what you got, it's how you feel about yourself, which ends up being reflected in how you "package" yourself. I don't just mean clothes there, either. I mean the whole thing, how you talk with people, whether you seem confident, whether you're comfortable in your own skin. You needn't be confident of everything, but you need to "know" yourself. And if you know yourself, and like yourself, then you'll be able to genuinely enjoy other people's company, and then odds are, some dude out there is gonna like you. Period. That's pretty much all it takes. So Sarey, if you're checking back in here, that's what it's about. Isn't it, Driver?

Sarey,

You are absolutely beautiful! Those eyes, that hair! That skin!
Everyone is made different. There will always be someone bigger or smaller than you. As long as you are healthy, take care of your body by eating good food and exercising, try not to stress about it. A beautiful mind and big heart are far more attractive than any waif will be. Trust me when I say you are exquisitely gorgeous now. But even as looks fade, when you grow up, if you are a good person, you'll have the last laugh.

I'd trade my brain for one from an engineer or accountant. Who cares about the body? It's just a lump of flesh.

I'd have my herniated lumbar disk magically melt back to where it belongs.

I'm seriously going to look into doing some of the Bikram yoga. I found a site that shows the vaious poses...if anyone's interested in taking a look.

Brewski I can't thank ya enough for mentioning Bikram yoga!!!! It just might be part of my solution for avoiding back surgery! Some of the poses look like what my physical therapist has been pulling me into. Here's another link if anyone is interested...

You know when something is so disgusting you can't help but look...

Or tried to run a 4k for charity!

Not with large mammary glands, naturally...

Not at all insulting. I'm trying to use a reference to how men are attracted to mammary glands... :)

Well, I did. Which essentially means..that I am stronger and tougher than a Mincan!! ;)

Women are stronger than men in some areas.

Okay, let's see, I guess I would ask for better hair on my head. It used to be thick and lucuous, now its dull, brittle, fine, and thinning all over my head (I'm not going to go bald) and it's from poor nutrition and excessive stress from about 2005 on... I'd like to get it back to being thick and healthy but I guess it's sort of too late.

It's ugly to me, ugh.
