When starting a titration process for an 140lb (63kg) person, is a dose less than 10mg per day (say 7.5mg or even 5mg) reasonable?
The prescribing Dr has started dosing at 10mg/day, and on day 1 the effects are quite noticable. No noticably bad side effects, but a mild "high", a general feeling of confidence, more physical as well as mental energy.
So the dose is effective, but maybe initially too high? I thought the idea was to start low and work up to an effective dosage... I'm concerned we might be starting a bit high if getting all the effects (and then some) on day 1.
Don't worry, those reinforceing effects go away VERY fast... I only got them about 2 or 3 times... and even that wasn't a "high" per se... that's kind of impossible at these doses, but it was very different from simply being able to settle down and concentrate...

Yes, it's reasonable for a Dr to try a 5mg dose initially, but that is not to say that it's unreasonable to try a 10mg dose initially. It boils down to what your Dr thinks is best for you. That being said, it's impossible for any Dr to know how any patient will respond to a given drug until the patient takes the drug.
I have read of people who take micro-doses of 1.25 mg per day, and they claim that it works great for them. That would not be nearly enough for me, but we each can and do respond differently to these things more often than not.
So the dose is effective, but maybe initially too high? Maybe. You and your Dr will have to determine that. I would suggest that you contact him/her and see what they think.
I thought the idea was to start low and work up to an effective dosage... I'm concerned we might be starting a bit high if getting all the effects (and then some) on day 1. The idea is to start low, but since some people are more sensitive to these things than others, it can be difficult for a Dr to find the best dose for every patient every time. Some of the effects experienced during the initial therapy with these types of medications often offers an unrealistic impression as to how the medication's effects are felt down the road for most people.
Please keep us posted on how everything unfolds on that end.
