Im taking 20 mg of dex at 7 am and 12 am witch was good untill I started night school. I dont think an other does is to much however I think my phyc will say no. Im nervous about asking because I think he'll cut me off. My question is does 60 mg a day seem high and whats the best way to ask? thanks
jbc3333, I gather from your question you are wondering whether you should arbitrarily up your dose.
The short answer is "No don't!"
The long answer is any changes to your medication should occur with direct consultation from your Dr./pysc
Firstly, there is usually a very good reason why you are on the doses you are on.
Secondly, usually to increase your dose, (if it does indeed need to be increased), titrating up will have to occur. This will resolve any side effects before they get too serious.
So. Please consult with your Dr. if you think it's not working.
I don't think it's too much. But I don't really know. This is a support site, not a medical site.
Here's my advice, just be honest with your doctor.
Explain the situation: Night School and ask him/her what your options are.
Unless your doc thinks you're abusing/selling your meds theres a very good chance they will understand.
Here's my experience with my doc from this morning:
Was on Adderall 25mg XR but getting crappy side effects and wanted to try Dex Spansules.
My doc started telling me about Wellburtin
I've had 5mg Dex booster tabs for over a year and chimed in that I noticed if I took 4 Dex tabs I felt great, could focus, less impulsive, less physically hyperactive and without the irritable side effects of Adderall.:o
Doc's reply: Well than let's just stick with Dexedrine :)
Together we did the math: 4x5 tablets 8:00am & Noon & 4pm (I am a university student) = 12 tabs a day.
I added there's a good chance I'll forget doses,
12 Dex tabs a day is getting to be more expensive than Adderall!
Doc: "Well there is a longer acting version of Dex but I don't recommend it as much as I used to...." :(
He went on to explain the 'timed release' didn't work for everyone, for some people it would kick in all at once, in others they wouldn't notice it at all and finally in some people it kicks in and out very randomly..
He than caught me completely off guard with a smile telling me about how great Dex is, its cheap and it works. He explained how back in the pre-Adderall days he wrote lots of prescriptions for Dex Spansules but when Adderall came out it started a trend of having to be more aware of the abuse potential of Dex.
He happily agreed it can't hurt for me to try and wrote me a prescription and told me to start titrating with 10mg spansules and made an appointment for me to come back in 3 weeks :D
Although I knew what I wanted I realized that if I hadn't broken it all down (listened to his advice) and just asked him for more Dex I probably wouldn't have gotten it. I also got a script to top up my dex tabs from when I stopped taking the adderall (which I brought back to prove to him).:p

He gave me an extra 10mg after I explained it.It wasnt easy but he gave in witch is better then nothing. My Therapist says he's kind of old school and very conservative. I'll see if 10 mg more work if not she'll set me up with someone else.
By the way mijahe I woundnt up it on my own Im not sure why you thought that.
