Weekends, love them or hate them?

I love them. In the week, unless I've been up all night - something I do a lot, I'm up at 6am preparing to get my grandson up for school. Sometimes I feel like I get through the week on auto pilot. Then come the weekend! I have lunch with one or other of my sisters, I do some fun shopping - that includes anything that is not grocery shopping, I have the grandkids over and we do a movie and take away food night. If I don't have the grandkids and my grandson stops over with one of his cousins, it's just me settling down with the whole of Sex & The City, a bottle of wine and some nice take away like roast peeking duck.

So how about you? What is your weekend like and what do you look forward to the most? Or dread the most?

Friday nights for us is family night.. we watch movies.. get take out..or a homemade meal.. with snacks for later. Most generally it's take out though so noone has to worry about cooking and the hassle of clean up.

A tradition I've started with my kids so that we still spend time as a family unit.

It depends on the weekend as well and if the father in law type unit is calling to say... let's build fence this weekend (like he wants to this weekend).. in which case I've been praying for a hard soaking rain so I don't have to build fence.

He wants me to come out..every weekend.. to cook for him, since mother in law is to the point where she burns everything she tries to cook.

Its nice not to have to get up for work but other than that I'm normally alone and bored to the extent my mind shuts down. More than 3 days and I'm totally lost in my head and can barely function.

Week... end? What is this concept? I am unfamiliar. Is this some internet thing?

I'm assuming that you're familiar with the days of the week. Well for most people, they work on Mondays to Fridays and then have free time on the Saturday and Sunday (commonly know as The Weekend).

Weekends are typically enjoyed by all. Weekends are a chance to catch up sleep, maintain friendships & relationships, and just go out and get fresh air now 'n' then.

As a consequence of a weekend, people tend to favour Friday as their favourite day of the week (with Monday being the opposite, the worst day of the week). And such people can often be heard exclaiming the phrase, "TGIF!" or "Thank God It's Friday" when things do not go to plan on a Friday.

In most cultures, 4:00pm on a Friday is known as Beer O'Clock. It's usually at this time work unofficially ceases and people retreat to a local pub and imbibe alcohol in a calm and relax manner.

For some people, weekends are not a time of joy. For them, it's a time of taxiing kids from soccer matches, basketball games, dance recitals and dropping their teenage offspring at a "mall".

For an unfortunate few, a weekend is merely two days where they continue to work, and if it were not for the changing patterns and densities in traffic, they would not be able to distinguish the two days of a weekend from those of the rest of the seven day week.

Oh, I see... Weekends are the days that I wear jeans... Or sometimes running clothes. And sometimes I even run to the office. I get it. We must learn more about these ends of weeks.
