Went on a job interview on Thursday loved the position...Have not worked in six months since I lost my business...Lost my business during the whole period of being diagnosed Bipolar II...Won't go into details except that I am finally feeling decent with my med/combo....Finally feel like I am being realistic...
The job is in my old field RE development (before starting business) that I was really good at...Economy has put a huge loss of demand for people in this field....
Don't know how the interview went....Just know I am scared sh----- that I won't get the job....Scared I will go in a deep depression if I don't get it...I am running out of money fast!
They have not contacted any of my references so far...How soon did they contact your references and how soon did they let you know if you got the job? When should I call?
I am going out of my mind waiting for an answer....

Congrats on the interview! This is......so hard.
How long before you hear back really depends. I think within a couple of weeks would be reasonable. One job took three months before I was actually "offered" the position. I hope your's goes faster though. Hang in there. Did you send a thank you to the interviewer? That always gives you more points, and might be a friendly nudge, you know? HR gets busy too. In the meantime to keep busy, keep looking! Or pursue a hobby that you wont' have time to do once you are fulltime employed. Best of luck, and keep us posted.
I feel you! Same happened to me many times.... waiting and waiting....not knowing whats going on. Did you send a "Thank you letter"? I heard that's common in the US. If not that that you could try that combining with asking for the status of your application......IMHO
ups... FrazzleDazzle already suggested that I just see...
sorry...

I did send a thank you note that night....Although I was temped to call and scream at them till they hired me-JK....Here is was I sent...What do you think? I want this job so bad!!!!!
I enjoyed meeting with you this morning and appreciate your time.
The interview convinced me further of how compatible my background, experience, and ability are with the goals and requirements needed of a successful ------- for -------------. It would prove to be a mutually beneficial relationship.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
I would take the reference check as a good sign! It means that your resume was good and your interview went well! If they're bothering to check your references it means they want to hire you and to make sure you're not a nut-case etc.
Having said that, don't invest too much emotionally on this job, otherwise you will set yourself up for a fall. If they don't take you, ask them for feedback! Even the mere act of doing so scores bonus points. Remember, you may just be #2 on the list and #1 may pass or not cut the mustard. It also shows keenness and a willingness to work, and they may just find a position for you anyhow.
BTW: I've spent some time unemployed so I know how nerve racking it can be (and how much your ego can get beaten). Hang in there, it'll all work out. If you're willing to work, people will hire you.

Your note was absolutely perfect!
Woops, misread your post. Thought you said you did have your references called. :o
Good idea on the thank you note. Now just sit on your hands and wait. I'd give it a week, especially if it's a large company as the wheels can move slowly.
