View Full Version : Zoloft
Pocketplayer 03-30-03, 05:48 PM Was given Zoloft and am taking 25mg a day for a week and then up to 50 mg. At day 3, so far, not much impact. I didn't sleep well last night (some friendship stress didn't help, so hard to tell what's what) but feel tired today. I also feel a little agitated, not much however. I had 1/2 a beer today (made fish fry) and no alcohol for past three days. I am not drinking anymore as directed from Dx to see Zoloft work at max level. Next habit to break, smoking. I broke down last night, bought a pack of cherry cigs and smoked a few. I am smoking 2-3 a day now and want to have as many smoke-free days as possible. Also eating well (lots of fish and veggies) and biking w/light weightlifting.
Joanrdtobe 04-03-03, 11:20 PM Hi Pocketplayer: How is it going with the zoloft...I was actually on this medication for awhile for depression...and if I recall it worked rather well....but I had same side effects as you and so came off it....good luck with stopping smoking....one day at a time...that's a tough one...I smoked for lots of years.....my brother, in his 40's still does...right now he goes to smoking cessation class....maybe try that?? for support? Good luck...
Joan:)
Pocketplayer 04-04-03, 02:17 AM Hi Joan
I was wondering if I was going to get a Zoloft resonse! So, thanks.
I called my Dx and he said to make sure I take Z w/food. I read the booklet with my package of Z and it said food or no food. Dx said to avoid side effects, take w/food. So, today I did and felt much better. We will give it another week. I was getting tired in the afternoon, even sleeping early for naps which I rarely do.
If you left Z, what did you go to? Any herbal remedies found at the local health food store?
Joanrdtobe 04-04-03, 10:59 AM I came off the Zoloft due to terrible insomnia at night...and sleepiness during day....and mouth always felt so dry... after trying a few others such as effexor, remeron, lamictil, trazadone, Wellbutrin has pretty much been my thing for the depression.....right now 400 mg per day....few side effects....herbal remedies?? no, not really yet...but may try....one can never tell....:)

yinrycher 04-05-03, 01:36 AM I used to take zoloft for depression and when I first started it they told me it would take up to 30 days to see any real results. As far as side effects I dont really recall having any. I was on it for 5 years and now am on Wellbutrin, although its no longer prescribed for depression but for migraines.
Joanrdtobe 04-05-03, 02:00 PM Interesting...didn't know Zoloft was being used to treat Migraines...hmmm....
I believe yinrycher was referring to Wellbutrin for migraines. Wellbutrin is normally prescribed as an antidepressant and to help with smoking cessation.
As you can see from the website below, Zoloft is an antidepressant that is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and panic attacks.

I've personally never heard of either one of these meds being prescribed for migraines, but if it works.... :D
Joanrdtobe 04-05-03, 04:54 PM oooooh okay....so wellbutrin is being used for migraines...no kidding...didn't know that either...seems to be quite a diverse drug...add, depression, smoking cessation, migraines...
Joan
When you think of it...one of the temporary side effects of stopping smoking is...a bad headache (or at least so I have been told). Since Wellbutrin (aka Zyban) was originally prescribed for people quitting smoking, to help with the side effects, it would make sense that it might work for some headaches not caused by smoking cessation as well.
Of course...all of this hyperbole goes out the window if yinrycher REALLY is taking Zoloft for a headache...;)
Pocketplayer 04-05-03, 08:38 PM Hey yinrycher & other Zoloft users:
Can someone tell me what I am exactly supposed to feel? I don't really notice much of anything. The slight side effects have reduced (on day 10) and I am taking with a meal rather than on an empty stomach. I am quitting smoking as well--interesting post on Wellbutrin if it does indeed help this nasty habit.
What did it do for you? In fact, anybody please post how meds helps them specifically.
unreal33 05-08-03, 12:53 PM I took zoloft several years ago. Nasty side effect on my sexuality... I could perform, but couldn't "culminate."
