Thought I was so much better! Been on Lithium and feeling great....Here I am with all the bad thoughts....And of course then with the evil thoughts I drink...Know I should not with the Lithium..

What the avg time for Lithium to really start making a difference?

Matt

Matt,

I'm sorry to hear that you are down and struggling. No need to tell you meds and booze don't mix, plus booze is a depressant. If you could leave it alone and do something to keep your mind occupied until the meds kick in. Take care.

Hey Matt,

From what I understand Lithium works mainly on the mania side. Can you tolerate Lamictal?

Even though you feel like crap, if you can try to remember that these are just thoughts and not you. I know when I am down (which happens to be today thank you very much) I don't want to hear that. but knowing it is not me is at least a bit of a relief.

If it gets bad please call your doctor.

Back on track...Feeling good so far

You are right in some studies Lamictal seemed to show a more positive gain on the depression side.

However Lithium has blown away all drugs in the completed suicide numbers...So because the past year i was high suicide risk felt it was a good choice...Can always add the Lamictal on top of the Lithium...

I'm glad you're feeling better. I went through an awful, suicidal depression this winter. It finally lifted when I had a psychotic episode and then became manic. I'm not really taking the meds I should be right now, but I figured that when the mania subsides, I'll deal with it. Having too much fun right now. . .

I know this is wrong thinking, I just can't help it. Anyhow, I'm glad you're taking care of yourself and are making the right decisions, esp. with regards to the suicide risk. I hope things stay even. Even though I'm enjoying the good times now, this illness sucks. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
