I've been taking Dexedrine spanules for about 2 years at 20mg/day. The last few months I felt it wasn't working like it used to and I was getting my ADD symptoms back like being irritable most the time and blowing up at people, not being able to even concentrate enough to watch a movie all the way through ect... I guess my ADD is mostly the innatentive and impulsive type now that I'm an adult. So I got my doctor to raise my dose to 40mg a day and it seems to be working allot better but he says that 40mg is the maximum dose and he's not sure if it's safe. Is there a maximum dosage? I would think everyone has different tolerances.

Is there a maximum dosage? I'm not sure how it's done in other countries, but in the USA we typically have a "recommended" daily maximum amount for most medications. A patient is allowed to take more than the recommended daily maximum amount as long as their Dr prescribes it for them.

I think it boils down to the individual patients response to a given drug, and of course the willingness of a Dr to think/act outside of the box, which is really something that not all Dr's are willing to do (usually for legal reasons). Some patients manage their symptoms well with very small doses of a given drug, while others may require more than the recommended maximum amount in order to manage their symptoms.

I would think everyone has different tolerances. You are absolutely correct. We each can, and often do respond to these things in our own unique ways.

I'll go a step further and say that those of us with ADD respond to EVERY kind of drug differently. I know that for me, even anethesia is hit or miss. I believe it has something to do with our biological difference in processing chemicals, and each of us probably has a different issue with the processing phase. My doc told me they did a study on how long Vyvanse lasts in X# of NORMAL people, and it was universally 12 hours. Okay aaand???... "NORMAL" people are not built like us! Like comparing apples to oranges. I couldn't believe it....
