Hi all,

Have been taking DextroStat (not brand name) 10mg tabs for a couple months. My usual dose is 15-20mg TID (three x daily) . While I think its a great medication , is does tend to "hit" me with some unwanted side effects , mainly muscle tension, increased heart rate , palm sweating, slight irritability. The side-effects are annoying, but the benefits of the medication outweigh these.

Anyways, I know dextroamphetamine is available in time-release spanules (5, 10 , and 15 I believe..?) I'm seeing my doctor Friday, and was possibly interested in asking to try the spanules as maybee they would offer a smoother onset and longer duration...? Was jut curious if others have tried the two and had any advice.

I'm getting 3-4hrs max. on 15mg IR formulation.

Thank you,
Kyle

I've been on the 15mg Brand Spansules and the 5mg Brand Tablets. They both have advantages... however I remember feeling much better on the spansules... but that could be because that was my first experience with dextroamphetamine at all... dunno... seem to remember feeling better a while ago while on the tablets too... must be the reinforcing effects gone... anyway.

I would suggest you do ask about the spansules. Whats the harm? Try them out, see which one you prefer.

I haven't made an issue out of not having the spansules even though they are more convenient in the general sense and last longer. I like the tablets because one, they are 5mg so I can control the amount. Plus I can control everything else. Duration of effect, amount, dosage, etc. If I don't want to be on them all day I only take 1 or 2 doses then I'm done, and then I can save the leftovers for times when I do need them, say when I need to get something done or pull an all nighter. The spansules pretty much give all this freedom up.

I've been on the DEX ER (spanules) for about a month now after being on IR adderall for quite awhile and I gotta say they are working. I would suggest what the previous poster said in why not give a try.

The only problem may be that you are used to the IR at 15-20mg so if this is to be effective for you (you) will need most likely 30-40mg (at least for the first dose IMO).

I was taking IR adderall four times a day 30mg/20mg/20/10 and my evenings were still falling short of effective coverage(I take my first dose at 6am and believe in 16 hour coverage if possible).

Currently on DEX ER at 30mg/6am// 20mg/11am// 10mg/4pm. May need minor adjustments but overall very effective. BTW I have no insurance so this is cost effective and thankfully I have a helpful doctor who listens to my ideas as I do to his.

Watts,

Thats what I was thinking - would need to take 2x15mg spansules Personally for me, it takes a minimum of 15mg to "jump start" my morning.
