Hi there,

I've been on dex for around a month now (and was on ritilin as a kid) and my doctor has also just put me on sodium valproate to try and help with comorbid overactive mind/irritability. I have to take 1 tablet twice a day (500mg each.) I had my first on Friday night, then took 2 Saturday and one this morning (Sunday) but feel absolutely awful - shaky, really sore stomach (even after taking after food) and massive headache.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'm starting to think that the secondary issues are not that important - the dex works really well and if these side effects are common, I'd rather not bother. Also, the doctor told me there is a high chance of gaining weight which I'm really not keen on. If anyone takes this medication, can they tell me how they found/find it and what side effects they had/have. Thanks so much,

Mab1

VALPROIC ACID (Systemic)
(http://www.drugs.com/cons/valproate-sodium.html) commonly known here in the US as Depakote.

I would contact the prescribing doctor about the negitive effects so he / she can adjust the dosage - make recommendations.

My daughter is on this medication and Concerta - when they added the Valproic she needed a decrease in her concerta - because it was like the Valproic made her more sensitive to her ADD medications - again I would not encourage any medication changes without consulting the prescribing doctor -
