Hi,
I am a 19 year old student and do have ADD. I get 40mg of Ritalin daily but am not very satisfied with the result. It keeps me motivated, of course but I hate the rebound. I am depressed, motivation is lower than ever and I drink and smoke pot to "cover the hole". I take Ritalin about 10 years now and am starting to think about alternatives ... I heard that Adderal is very popular among the USA.
Is the rebound on Adderal as bad as on Ritalin ? I have heard many different oppionios from my doc and would love to hear some personal impressions of you, if you know both substances.
Thanks for reading

Did you read your post?
'I am depressed, motivation is lower than ever and I drink and smoke pot to "cover the hole"'
How can you know what is doing what if you are on such a chemical cocktail?
Alcohol is a depressant, and pot will eliminate your motivation, and leave you feeling depressed about all the opportunities that you are missing.
Being 19 isn't easy, what 19 year old isn't depressed at some point? Adding substance abuse problems on top of it isn't going to make it easier - it will make it worse.
Maybe you should consider why you think that a change of medication would make things better for you. Is something else going on here?

As a former and thankfully fully-recovered-for-years stoner, I advise you to kick the pot habit, like, yesterday. It will do nothing but make you wake up days-months-years later wishing you had done something with your life. Sans pot I would probably have a PhD by now.
I'm not saying that there are no PhD pot smokers out there, but I'm saying for the ADD crowd, it does nothing to help with making sure that you do something with your life.
If you feel like you are in a hole, substance abuse will only certainly dig it deeper. Take it from one who KNOWS!!

I went through this exact same experience at the age of 20. I realized the more I would cover the hole, the worse and worse the depression got. I feel drugs like the ones we take only amplify and speed up the process of going down the addictive spiral. My advice would be to kick one bad habit, and I strongly urge it to be alcohol. This would be far more detrimental than pot. Then you can decide where to go from there, but a first step in the right direction is better than nothing. Also, I found great relief from addiction with clonidine. http://www.drugs.com/clonidine.html My Dr. prescribed me it both unaware of it's ability to greatly aid with kicking an addiction, but luckily for me that is a nice side effect. It really helps cover the hole in a non-addicting way. I would suggest talking to your Dr. about trying it out. Best of luck and feel free to PM me anytime if you have any questions because I can relate to what you are going through.:)

Well, you have to understand I never had a social problem caused by my addiction(s). I am good in school, have a girlfriend, loving partens and more friends I can count. Yes I am lazy, donīt have much motivation and the drug abuse does harm my body.
I am looking for someone who can tell me the major differences between Ritalin and Amphetamin. I think quitting the pot would be a big step forward but I although look for Ritalin alternatives. I have opened another threat about my "drug-history", please post there with advise about my substance abuse. I was never really satisfied with Ritalin because it comes more like in motivation waves and not constantly and the rebound is really heavy. Does anyone know about the legal status of Adderal in Germany ? It shure is mentioned in the BtmG, like Methylphenidate, but I dont know if Doctors are used to that kind of mediacion.

Adderall is smother for me - I had horrible rebound when the Ritalin wore off - it was like falling off a cliff - I do not experience this with the Adderall and I take the regular release.
Ritalin had a harsh onset for me also - when it began to work I felt like I was hitting a brick wall with my head - I got a Ritalin head ache almost daily. I do not experience this with the Adderall at all . . .
I was on Ritalin before I began Adderall . . .
Hope this helps
