View Full Version : MORE inattention | Fog?

I'm on day two of Strattera at just 25mg thus far. Soon after taking it I felt spaced out, more scattered and more easily distracted.
I have gotten some things done at work today, but not as much as I probably would have with no meds!

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I should mention that I've always been "hypersensitive" to psych meds, including SSRIs, so 25mg while it doesn't seem that much, does have an effect on me.

Give it more time to take full effect. See:

I'm off Strattera. This drug may work for some people, but the side effects for me were awful. Not to mention that the scatteredness never really wore off.

I am going to try a stimulant-based medication. I'm hopeful these will work better for my situation.

I was the same. My first psych did not want to prescribe stimulant meds and gave me a horrible two months on strattera, after which she wanted to put me on Efexor. I did not - I left her and found a psych who was not a stimulantphobe and am doing great on dexedrine.

I've seen on several places that experts (like Dr Hallowell) mention that Strattera is not really fulfilling it's promise .. it may work for some, but for me it was totally horrible. More foggy, tearful, uncoordinated. Blehh.

Good luck. Make sure that you try at least two different stimulants before deciding. Dexedrine is a whole lot better still for me than Ritalin was, and if my psych had not made me try dexedrine I would not have known.

Ugh.

The Strat DID work for me. It was an almost immediate effect. But I noticed it was wearing off faster and faster. I'd have about 2 hours of "almost" decent focus and calm before the brain cloud would come, and mind racing again, and getting uncoordinated.

A lot of what I have read states it builds up in the system and has a 24 hour effect. Not so in my case. From the first 40mg I took I could feel it. But I had also just completed a 10 day detox from 20 years of self-medicating. I suppose anything would have helped at that point.

I'm still on it. 60x2 day and started Effexor last week at 75mg. I go up to 180 mg in a couple of days.

So far, I'm a little more focused and calm, but feel I've lost my edge.

That edge might have been the Strat not being 100% effective.

Maybe I just need some more coffee.

In my case, the Strat worked wonders. It just isn't for everybody. And I don't think there's a Doc out there that honestly say how it will effect you. Probably not even Lilly.

Strattera could take a week to two weeks. But for me, I am taking Strattera and a stimulant.

They told me it took 6 weeks .. a bit like SSRI antidepressants.

I've been on Strattera for 4 weeks now. I started at 10mg the first week, then 18mg the second week, 25mg the third week and now i'm back down to 18mg/day. It worked for me within the first 24 hours. I still have the occasional "foggy" moments but so far i'm extremely happy with it.

It may be that people are ramping up to high doses too fast for their situation. Hitting 25mg in the third week was way too much for me. I kept feeling a weird "buzz" and felt a bit disoriented at times. I may end up at more than the 18mg/day i'm taking now but i'll go at it slowly. I'm having a great deal of success as it is and won't go up unless i feel it's necessary.

In addition to what i just stated, it seems that the side effects i was having are slowly diminishing as well. It seems that, with me anyway, Strattera wants to work immediately but my brain needs time to adjust to it. I think a more patient approach to using it might be best for some.

I've never used the stimulants so I can't compare my experience to them but unless Strattera ultimately fails, i don't see a need to try anything else.

you should try the 15mg stattera, i feel that the 15mg helps me concentrate more than the 40mg imo. atm i been taking 25mg strattera with 100mg wellbutrin sr....works decent. now wellbutrin sr 100mg with paxil 10mg and omg its like the best med ever. no more extra thinking/thoughts/daydreaming
