I ruined things here and my plans are shot. So I am just thinking about moving to Ohio. I fear I might be miserable but I can't stand being here anymore.

I picked up (what little I had) and moved from Indiana to Washington, DC on a whim. I absolutely loved it. I found the sudden, drastic change to be incredibly cathartic, so much so I decided I'd never stay "too long" in one place again. I'm now living in my fifth state and still thriving on the periodic jolts of change. I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason I experience somewhat lengthy periods of lucidity after a major move. I feel less fogged, more capable and therefore less overwhelmed and depressed. The novelty of my surroundings is definitely part of it.. keeps me from sinking into my head too far. :) Tiako44 04-23-08, 11:41 PM I am in my early 20's though.. So what did you do about living arrangements until you found a job? Minicooper 04-23-08, 11:56 PM Moved in with my sister. cameron 04-24-08, 02:24 PM nice. I was like this in my 20s...I'm like this in my 30s too! just need to move again!!! I'm stuck in a RUT, and need to GET OUT! Brakna 04-24-08, 03:07 PM I have lived in seven different states and overseas (3 years) and I'm in my mid-thirties. How's that for wanderlust! msam76 04-24-08, 06:41 PM I moved from Texas to Pennsylvania when I was younger...my parents choice not mine. The move was hard due to weather and climate differences. Where are you now? Why Ohio? Do you have family/friends there? auntchris 04-26-08, 12:57 AM No , I have always been in the same city in Ohio.... I have been here for 48 years come July. SuzzanneX 04-26-08, 01:07 AM I moved from atlanta to las vegas to florida Tiako44 04-27-08, 11:25 PM That is where I am at. SuzzanneX 04-28-08, 12:20 AM florida?? ....don't you hate this hot mo fo?? LOL! I'm in flagler beach, near daytona. SuzzanneX 04-28-08, 02:09 AM if you go, take me with you!! lol scarygreengiant 04-28-08, 02:42 AM I moved from Northern Virginia to New Orleans after being fired from several jobs and generally having a messy life. It's totally worth it. I'm still not a happy person but I would be much worse if I had stayed in Virginia. Actually, I'd probably be dead by suicide. I was miserable in Virginia because I was caught in the cycle of searching for new jobs after being fired and feeling like a failure. Moving away allowed me to leave the bad memories behind and start a new life. There's something about being in a place where you don't know a single soul. It makes you explore and ask questions and learn about people. It was also an adventure. I've learned a lot about the world and a lot about myself too. Do it! Go for it! Move! Why are you thinking Ohio? Do you have friends there? Are there potential job opportunities there or did you randomly pick Ohio? Just wondering. Is Ohio as nice as Idaho? They sound similar. SB_UK 05-01-08, 07:44 AM I ruined things here and my plans are shot. So I am just thinking about moving to Ohio. They sound similar. They are so completely different. :) Idaho is a very conservative, very remote state. It doesn't have an enormous population, and it's few cities are rather small. Lots of rural economy and culture. It also seems to attract more than it's fair share of cults and "compounds". Ohio has a few pretty big cities, a lot of history, and is overall a lot more urban in nature. The agriculture is different, its politics are less codified, and even the countryside is noticeably different. It's also significantly closer to other major cities in other states. It isn't unreasonable to take a short road trip to Chicago, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, DC, NYC, Baltimore, and more, from Ohio. From Idaho you get two options. Seattle, and Vancouver. I also moved from Northern Virginia to New Orleans - back in '98 - after 4 1/2 years of moving around the DC metro area. Moved 6 times while I was there. Eventually, I couldn't take the insane traffic any more - 3 hours a day cooped up in a car in bumper-to-bumper hell just to make a living was about to push me over the edge. New Orleans seemed tiny (and cheap!) after that, and I loved it. Lived in Memphis about 9 months after Katrina, then back to New Orleans until about two months ago when I moved to Tulsa. I love it here, but I also hope I don't stay too long (I regret having stayed in New Orleans for 10 years, I could have really gotten to know at least one more area in that much time.) I do really LOVE to move. Learning new places is so much fun, and nothing beats that "starting over with a clean slate" feeling. scarygreengiant 05-02-08, 12:32 AM Wow! That is so funny! Too bad you're not in NOLA anymore or we could meetup. For my next move I'm thinking about Philadelphia, New York, or San Francisco. Ahh, so many places to explore. SB_UK 05-02-08, 04:05 AM It also seems to attract more than it's fair share of cults and "compounds". how does one go about starting a cult? Figured my geologgers could take on the scientologists - - we do't do anything bad to trees mind you? druids are not geologgers. |
