hi all
i got diagnosis (at last) of mild ADHD and ODD for my 7 year old son, Max.
He has been put on a trial of two weeks ritalin 5mg twice a day and i have to call pych after this to review. Problem was explaining to Max wot this meant secondly we had probs gettin himto take meds, luckily he is takin now due to a promise of ps2 game if he can take it ( i will be broke at this rate) unfortunately i do not know how to explain to my other sons aged 11 and 10, as they already think that Max gets preferential treatments! They know he has to take meds but dont seem to understand when I try to expain it all - resulting in arguements about why max can get aggressive etc but they cant - feel i am fighting a losing battle most days and oldest takes it out on Max (winds him up at least thing).
My friend helps me by tellin me how to diffuse situations that arise with Max, as her son is ADHD too and i must say it helps as in tonite when he was going ballistic and i just hugged him and talked with him till he calmed down.
BUT - what do you do with other children to stop them feeling neglected and left out ?????
and how do u put the diagnosis into simple terms so that they can ignore the worst and enjoy the best??
Any ideas greatly appreciated

There are many books on ADHD meant for kids and families... unfortunately I can't recommend a specific one... but if you can find a good one, I would have ALL of your kids read it...
