I am a primarily inattentive ADDer. I am writing this to get some feedback. I don't think that my case represents any of these medicines well, so some of you shouldn't take influence from reading this. With that said, here's where I'm at:
I took Strattera for a long time as my first medicine, and that one helped the most with clarity of thought. I felt really smart on that one. Unfortunately, it ended up making me very depressed, and I still don't like to think about how I felt on it. It also made me emotionally "flat," or boring.
Currently I take Wellbutrin, 150mg XL, and sometimes 1/4 or 1/2 of a 75mg IR booster. It would be higher, but it tends to wipe out my short-term memory and makes me very muddleheaded (foggy thoughts)! However, I think the Wellbutrin evens out my moods, and makes it so that
I don't get depressed when Dexedrine wears off, which was a big problem. Sometimes the Wellbutrin puts me in a good mood, and I feel very motivated to do things, and I have lots of energy. However, I am ambivalent about it because this is inconsistent and somewhat rare, depending on sleep, dosage, phase of moon or what-have-you, I don't know. Also, I feel that it might be making me emotionally flat like Strattera did.
I also take Dexedrine, 15mg (5mg doses, three times daily). Sometimes the Dexedrine gives me clarity of thought, like after I take a break from it for a day or so. However, after a day or two of that it makes me more muddle-headed (foggy) than before! To be fair, all of the stimulants have worked this way for me. I've tried Focalin XR (10mg), Adderall XR (10mg), Adderall (15mg / day, 5mg doses), Concerta (18mg).
However, I still think that I am better off with what I'm taking now than nothing at all. Atleast I am not depressed, and I am trying to do my work!
I'm currently also taking 250mg liquid Magnesium supplement, 500mg-1000mg EPA Omega 3, Super B-Complex vitamin, and sometimes I try another supplement called Centrophenoxine (a choline source). The Magnesium helps to calm me down, and the Centrophenoxine helps clear up my thoughts a bit, but I am unsure about the others I mentioned -- can't hurt to keep taking them, though, I guess.
