What do people here think about returning to school full-time when you've already gotten a degree? I'm 24, so I hate the idea of putting my life on hold, as well as getting all that debt. But it may be neccessary :(

How will it improve your life if you do go back to school? red8all 04-30-08, 05:40 PM School was pretty enjoyable for me once I got the hang of it. Not all schools cost as much as you may fear. Look around and find the best deal. I went to a state school for engineering. I will revocer my investment in my first year of work. Most doctors can't say that. (I suppose if you consider lost income while a student, the break even point could be three years out, max.) DillyDots 05-01-08, 02:47 AM I'm also 24 and heading back to school full-time in the fall for a graduate degree...for me, it's a neccesary next step in my chosen career, and luckily I got an almost full-tuition scholarship. No matter what you're studying or what professional field you want to enter, I think that getting higher degrees (or for that matter, another undergraduate degree) is a deeply personal decision - ultimately, you are the one who will benefit from the experience - and be carrying any debt from it :) Good luck in what ever you choose to do next, and best wishes! Driver 05-01-08, 03:16 AM Thought about doing your degree by correspondence? It requires discipline thought; it's not for everyone. Five 05-01-08, 03:37 AM I've known so many people (all different ages) who have done this successfully. I would suggest doing an internship related to your new career choice when you go back to school. It seems to be a good way to list experience once you graduate. ADHDbutTrying 05-04-08, 11:40 AM What is it you are thinking about going back to school for? How will it improve your life if you do go back to school? Electrical engineering and computer science... I have a lot of the math requirements already out of the way. I talked with a academic advisor, and if I took a SUPER heavy workload and studied during the summer as well I could finish in 20 months. vtenginerd 05-04-08, 12:16 PM I started a graduate engineering program last August at 24 y/o. It'll take me almost two years to get my MS (I'm planning to graduate next May), so I'll be 26 when I'm done with all this school and can finally start working. What's your other degree in? If it's in one of the liberal arts majors, then you should be able to recover the cost of an engineering degree in a couple of years. Good luck! I'd say that you aren't too old for it, and it'll only get harder from here. |
