Ok, in a years time I will be a qualified counsellor:cool: and need to decide what to do with the rest of my life..
I have an interest in adult ADHD having just been diagnosed and also have an interest in research, having a PhD (science related)
I would love to do some research into therapeutic strategies for coping with ADHD, Maybe an MPhil/MA?
Sooooo any ideas for approaching this? and any idea who may wish to supervise such a study in the UK? I really don't want to go over old ground, so maybe something fairly novel?
Anyone?
Thanks in advance :)
White Noise via crainal electrical stimulation. Some evidence that auditory white noise can improve ADHD so finding other ways to get it into the brain might be more usefull. Transcranial magnetic stimulation with white noise also.

That UK company makes transcranial magnetic stimulators.
I would love to do some research into therapeutic strategies ... ...
which therapeutic strategies do you believe might be useful (no evidence needed here - just a feeling is fine) -
but haven't seen any/much/enough information on?
What do you like?
(please answer any way you like :-))
points - do what you really feel and really like and if you're really interested - you'll be
original
novel
creative
if I was going to do this - I'd empower people's creativity without requirement to spend money.
Have you read ADHD in Adults, by Susan Young? If you like it I know she does direct Thesis research :)

---1---
Three master themes emerge from the analysis:
Participants engage in a
(a) review of the past, particularly how they feel different from others,
(b) the emotional impact of the diagnosis,
and (c) consideration of the future.
---2---
These themes suggest a six-stage model of psychological acceptance of a diagnosis of ADHD: (a) relief and elation, (b) confusion and emotional turmoil, (c) anger, (d) sadness and grief, (e) anxiety, and (f) accommodation and acceptance.
COMMENTS
---1---
what else is there apart from past, present and future?
---2---
a six-stage model of psychological acceptance of a diagnosis of disease
- this isn't ADHD-specific
why is it a model?
when we learn why we've not being feel well -
-1-
we're relieved
-2-
confused (because we don't know what the word means)
-3-
happy if it's curable
-4-
worried if it's kinda' curable
-5-
sad if it isn't
-6-
then stoic - because we don't have any choice and suicide'd be silly.
