View Full Version : These side-effects are seriously bothering me

I never get side-effects from medicines @_@ Never ever.. well, until I started ADHD treatment a few months ago.

I started with Vyvanse at first and it made me extremely irritable for a week but that was it. But as I upped the doses I REALLY lost my appetite.

But what sucks is I feel very weak and sick when I'm hungry, and when the Vyvanse wore off (way too early) I would just crash from hunger pains. My knees shake and everything X_X Its terrible.

I stopped it for awhile because that was bothering me, but my doctor told me to take it again the other day, this time with the Strattera starting at 25 mg for the first half, then when I run out of that I take the 40mg (he gave me the samples since I'd only take it for a month).

I'm only going to be taking it for a little over a month, he said it would help improve the Vyvanse effects (after a couple of months, even when it was upped I stopped being able to focus, all it did was make me loose my appetite).

My mom, who is hardcore about me taking my meds (when I don't atleast take the Wellbutrin and Lexapro, I get ticked off very easily), is actually suggesting I stop taking it because of the side effects.

I feel totally brain dead. This only helps me focus on assignments and do them very well, but it bothers me everywhere else.

Thankfully, driving is like a natural instinct for me, but I have trouble with the speed limit in the school zone more then usual X_X Too darn slow.

I've got the tiredness. Hardcore. Way more then usual, which is probably what is contributing to the braindead feeling.

I just kinda sit there and feel like "....." Thankfully it doesn't start until right around when school lets out, but having stuff to do at home and homework it bothers me that it does that.

Though last night, I actually did sit down and work on a graphic for like, 3 hours without hardly getting up, which I haven't done in a long time... though it wasn't something that I needed to work on ^^;;; I wish that could've been applied to my schoolwork... but I kinda feel like doing that less now more then ever, and thats the opposite reason of what I take this for, I need more focus and drive to do schoolwork!!! I used to have great drive but now I'm totally loosing it on EVERYTHING! I'll totally die in college at this rate.

Also the dizziness is really irritating, especially at night. I feel like I do when I'm sick and light headed, like I could just fall over at any time and everything is going wheee~

My mom also noticed that my eyes were super super dialated, they went back to normal outside, but then when I tried to get them out of the light they wouldn't grow, they stayed small, which was the exact opposite of what it had been doing.

At one part the green in my eyes was hardly there, my pupils were HUGE!!!

Also now my vision is blurry, it comes and goes. I have perfect vision, and things I can usually read are now blurry even at small distances.

And a bad headache X_X I had some annoying sinus drainage and headaches last week, and it finally wore off and now I take this and the long headaches are back @_@

The worst part (feeling/mentally wise) is the ....... feeling, I just wanna sit there and do nothing.

I couldn't draw yesterday, I just traced over pictures I had already drawn and darkened up the lines, when in my head I totally wanted to draw new stuff, but I just didn't have the drive. I feel so retarded @_@

I've also got the upper-right abdominal pain that comes and goes, and its never hurt there before.

We're going to call the doctor and see what can be done, and I'm not pleased that he didn't mention the side effects, aside from it will still decrease my appetite.

Well it helped hold off my hunger crash for a few hours later, but that just made the crash more worse X_X My knees were shaking horribly in the bookstore when it hit, I felt so weak.

With these side-effects, do yall think I should get off this and try something new?

Now I'm taking 4 medicines at once X_X The Wellbutrin, Lexapro, and Vyvanse are pretty high doses too. That CAN'T be good for you

Yes side effects suck and it seems you've been hit hard.

What doses are you taking your meds in, and when do you take them?

Why has your doc prescribed Wellbutrin? And what's your 4th med? And how long have you been taking your meds?

Wellbutrin XL was actually the very first thing I started taking, about a year and a half ago I believe. I started with 150, which did nothing so I take the 300, which works. I don't get any side-effects from that. That was for my depression symptoms.

A few months after that, since the Wellbutrin wasn't doing very good on its own they added in Celexa, that eventually I took at 40mg. That was fine till I started working at the waterpark, and when I was covered in that water under the sun, I got this extremely painful sensation like I was being pricked all over. So then I took 20mg of Celexa but that didn't help. So I got put on 10mg of Lexapro, but since its like 20 mg of Celexa it didn't help, but I would again get that sensation when I took the 20mg of Lexapro.... So I had to skip out on Lexapro til school started, which REALLY sucked.

Back at the end of last year, the doctor said that alot of my problems and stress could be attributed to ADHD, and I fit the bill, so I started Vyvanse at the starting dose, which made me EXTREMELY irritable the first week, like I didn't take my other 2 meds at all. That wore off, and not too long after that so did the good effects. I bumped it up, and I lost my appetite and concentrated better for about 2 weeks and it went poot again. Upped it again, still no appetite (and the bad hunger crashes XP), and it only worked properly for a couple of days and it totally went poop. The only thing it does is suppress my hunger, which is not why I take it =P

So Monday he gave me the Strattera to take with everything, that I'll only have to take till school's out. It's suppose to help me get through the next month, because lately I've been so unmotivated and so freakin out of it my grades slipped terribly.

Anyway in all I take 300mg Wellbutrin XL, 20mg Lexapro, 70mg Lexapro, and then the 25mg of Strattera, which he said to start taking the 40mg of that in 2 weeks. To me, that sounds like WAY too many chemicals to pump in my body.

I read that this had adverse effects with other meds, and I get evil sinus infections. I can safely take amoxicillan and z-pack with my first 3 meds, but I'll die if it jacks me up while taking the Srattera.

Back right when spring break started I got the flu for the first time, then developed bronchitis/pluracy from that. I was afraid to take anything because I was taking so much for the illness (and pain from the pluracy X_X)

I take the Wellbutrin XL and Lexapro to help me cool my jets. Without them I'm very easily irritated, and as I've taken them somethings I've learned to handle without the meds, but I'm really stressed out, and that will make me scream and slam doors and yell and get mad as heck.

Oh yeah, I had to quit my job because of the built up stress from them wanting too many hours from me (and then not telling me when I was scheduled when they decided to just write me in without my knowledge) and excessive schoolwork.

I actually have a bald spot from stress. My hair is still thinning a bit in some places and its not growing back. I am 17, female, and horrified =X It really sucks, and I wonder if the chemicals in the meds are affecting the regrowth.

I'm getting a vibe here that your doctor is just throwing drugs at you to swallow. You're taking two ADHD meds and two Anti-Depressants. With so many meds and so many variables it could be anything. And just for fun, Wellbutrin is also a stimulant, while being an anti-depressant, and Strattera is sort of an anti-depressant too. So you've got all these drugs trying to solve the same problems.

Talk to your doctor and try reducing your cocktail.

Also, have you looked at Concerta/Ritalin? And which subtype of ADHD have to been diagnosed with? Were you properly assessed, or did your doc just give you some ADHD meds to try out?

He pretty much is throwing me ADHD meds to try out.

Wellbutrin and Lexapro work great for me together, and I don't want to jack with them until I no longer need em. When I just take them alone it helps with my mood and keeps me "docile" for the most part XD I'm REALLY not a naturally sad person, I'm really quite happy, but all the stress from years has taxed my mood and emotions horribly. I also had stress-induced acid reflux (i had the symptoms, but no real signs of a problem, I had countless tests done, and lost like 30 lbs in a flash) in elementary school (that went away, yay), and now I have stress-induced breathing difficults, and way more sinus infections/bronchitis episodes then ever before, my immune system took a shot from all the stress. I hardly ever get sick, sick, but now I'm getting more infections and even with Dr notes, I'm in trouble for attendance.

I'm talking with my mom about it, and we may just go find someone else and get a REALLY good assessment done. I also believe that I may have some serious stress-induced anxiety problems, and I'd really like that looked into as well. That's probably what caused me to feel depressed and emotional more then anything.
