Walking around helps me think better. I get these wonderful ideas and answers to my problems. If I have the urges to move or unable to I zone out really bad. Then I can't force on anything that's around me in real life. It feels like my mind is lock in it's self. When I do walk around I start daydreaming allot, not really thinking about where I am going.

I can't stand this sometimes. Like if I am having trouble on what to write about on schoolwork. I have to get up walk in circles to help get ideas, and produce a plan.

I am not really force on where I am going. Like 25% of my force, and thinking is helping me not walk into a wall, and 75% is thinking about something that's bothering me.

What is this? Is this part of my ADD/ADHD? I have been struggling with this since I was a child. My brother does the same thing. I remember my brother and I walking around the house with the music on.

for sure -
movement is the key to all of this (AD(H)D).

I had a friend from Vancouver who used the phrase 'walk and talk' -
to describe the benefits of motion on thought.

Your observation is very important
- it's the first of a few big reasons for why sedentary office work is physiologically counter-productivity.

yeah I find it easier to think when I walk around also.

Unconsciously, when I talk to someone on the phone at home, I start to walk. It is the only way I do not get disturbed by the TV, the kids, the computer, the birds... This is mostly with social talk with my family.

Curiously, at work it's a bit different. I just don't need that much walking. The conversations are really different, usually short, and it involve my troubleshooting skills. I do however need frequent walk around the office.

I am the inattentive type. This is probably a small hyperactive part of me.

Ofcourse. Makes sense that moving around helps.

It keeps you *alert*.

One of the 'theories about ADD/ADHD' is that our brain arousal (or, alertness; THINK 'sleep/wake') levels are low.

Staying active helps us 'stay alert' or increase alertness.

Some folks use Fidget Toys in their hands too. (e.g. in class when walking around isn't realistic.)

Another thing you can do is workout b4 you study. (e.g. treadmill, jogging, elliptical machine, etc)

It also helps get more blood and oxygen and glycogen (sugar) to the brain!

It's amazing that we are in different sides of the world and so similar, you described me perfectly, I just randomly walk around in circles for ages just thinking about things, the mind is so clear when I do that, I think movement with no clear objective works best, I could never achieve the same level of conciousness when going to the gym or when juggling or doing similar activities.

I always walk around when talking on the phone, without noticing I can descend and ascend hundreds of times and I'm always surprised how much my legs hurt after a long talk and wonder how I got upstairs.
If I try to sit I get frustrated and stand up, generally stand up, walk about a bit then sit down.

It can be intense sometimes.

moving around helps me to think better as well.
it helps my mind to stay focussed on one idea..rather than the many that seem to float around my head..
my clearest thoughts, ideas etc..come togethor when im pacing around or dancing..

What about the vertical desks- suppose to be great for ADD folks.

Sometimes people ask my mother if I have autism. My brother has Asperser’s and walks around in circles like me. I remember my mother talking to my brother's teacher, and he asks her if I had Asperger like my brother. My brother and I were walking around; I was bored. The only different is that my brother does it allot more, and has a hard time engaging into a conversation.

Haha, I'm a pacer. If I'm on the phone and need to concentrate I start pacing.
