Has anyone here gotten of their meds for good (or an extended period of time)? And, were you able to continue to be successful afterwards?
I'm interested in your experiences.

JR1973 05-05-08, 09:40 PM I tried to get off meds for about 6 months and try to 'wing it' with Provigil alone. What a disaster. Suprised I didn't get fired from work since I just fell apart after stopping my Adderall XR. Time management, inattention, distractions galore, and the list goes on. I'm sticking to the meds from here until the end. shakepurmake 05-06-08, 09:00 PM Has anyone here gotten of their meds for good (or an extended period of time)? Ive tried so hard living without them and I HAVE TO STILL because my parents don't believe in mental disorders. Got em for 30 days, but god, im still so dependent on them. I may look like i have everything under control, but to be honest, I don't and I completely hate every aspect about myself when I am not on them. I suppose it depends on how severe ur ADD is really. Inattentive ADD is driving me to madness with my parents. Imnapl 05-06-08, 09:39 PM Has anyone here gotten of their meds for good (or an extended period of time)? Sure. Or even those who started on the meds as adults and eventually got off them. ToneTone 05-07-08, 06:38 PM From what I've read in various forums, many people stop using the meds. Some doctors and psychologists think that's one reason the meds are sometimes ineffective--people stop taking them! But sure, I think there are many people who stop taking them .... I sense what you're really asking is, did they do ok? ... and the answer is, it probably varies. Some probably are doing horribly, some are probably doing well .... some in between ..... If you desire to go off the meds, I would only do so under the close supervision or a psychiatrist or psychologist. There are safe ways and really dangerous ways of ceasing psychiatric medicine. Don't let shame and embarrassment block you from sitting down and discussing this bluntly with your provider. I would make sure you have your med optimized before quitting. I would do trial and error with different meds. But that's me .... good luck. goingone 05-12-08, 07:52 PM anyone have (or know of someone who has) any experiences? goingone 05-29-08, 01:01 PM bump! |
