I was taking a few minutes to sort some piles of piles of paperwork (yes, piles OF piles...) and happened to grab a bank statement from February. Now, my bank sends with the statement, a photocopy of each deposit slip and check presented during that statement period. Rather handy I suppose if I used it, however I just use the online site.

Now, for some odd reason I chose to look at this statements copies. Mind you I'm just rummaging through papers and tidying the pile, not looking for anything.

On one deposit slip copy there is an X over the computer generated deposit info and a different deposit amount is shown.

Ok, long story short: I had gone with a deposit of two checks and an additional money order that I simply wanted to cash. In the drive through, btw.

the teller sends back the thingy and there's no cash, just the receipt with the total of ALL THREE items having been deposited to my account. I questioned this, commenting that I meant to cash the money order when she tells me I wrote the slip out as it all getting deposited, but she'd fix it. So I sent back the wrong receipt and she sent me back everything corrected.

Ok, so here I am tonight looking at the EXACT COPY OF MY ORIGINAL SLIP and I DID NOT write it wrong. SHE LIED TO ME.

I'm ****ed.

I don't blame you for being p***ed.. any way to take it up with her supervisor?

I'd be ****ed too. She probably figured you wouldn't find out.

It's hard to find good help, isn't it?

I'm not entirely sure what I plan to do... since now I've had a nights sleep to let the anger wear off.

I'd actually been contemplating looking around for another bank to park my big wad o cash... :p

That's just it, they're going to take one look at our measly deposit balance and say "big deal, suck it up you whiney baby". "Closing your account are you?" "Good riddance".

They've done things within the past 6 months or so that have given me pause and made me think they aren't going to get any awards for customer service.

Frankly, I'd rather pay a monthly fee with a bank that gives a crap, then not pay one and have them ******* LIE TO MY FACE (via the intercom of course.) Stupid bank.

I'd be just a bit concerned that the teller was trying to pull a fast one and keep the money you asked to get back, telling you that she had deposited it all - now that you know the first deposit slip didn't match what she was telling you. I would take the copy they sent you in and speak to the manager, explaining what happened, and how you just assumed it was your mistake at the time, but now you can see that it wasn't your mistake at all. They may have noticed other times when things didn't quite match up, but weren't sure enough to confront the teller. Or maybe they have already caught her red-handed. In which case, you can take a deep breath and go shopping. :)

This happened to my Mom on numerous occasions... the person doing it..ended up arrested for imbezzlement. If Mom hadn't filed a complaint, the woman would have gotten away with it.

They found that she'd been stealing from most of the town.

Please do not let it slide... even if you do move to a new bank. Because she'll keep doing it to other unsuspecting customers.. JMO

Yikes, I never considered that. Initially I figured they'd just call me whiney, but I might actually be doing them a favor.

gads.
