I drive a lot, which gives me time to think. I have a lot of ideas... mostly about my work. I am half self-employed, but work part time to fill in the gaps. I know I have a lot more potential, but I'm having trouble getting there.

I have these ideas and even start to develop a plan. The problem is I can't seem to act on them. Whether it's in growing my own business (beginning stages at the moment) or in figuring out an issue in my office job.

When I do sit down to do something, I often feel overwhelmed or I get frustrated easily. An example from today: I'm having an issue with a website I'm building. I can't get my two templates to match even though the code is identical and it matches perfectly in my editor. As soon as I compare pages in my browser, they don't match at all! I tried a few different things, but eventually gave up. I closed my laptop and am going to try to focus on something else for a bit.

Point is I get frustrated quickly, put it down, and it will be a while before I get up the mental energy to work on it again. I will actively seek out reasons NOT to work on it. Even if that reason is to simply check this message board... for an hour or two.

When I get up the motivation to pick up a new project, it quickly gets tedious or overwhelming and I put it down... not touching it for weeks... or more.

A million ideas, but no motivation to stick to the task... sometimes even starting it is difficult.

Does anyone have any tried and true tips for overcoming this type of avoidance?

I read something somewhere sometime about spending a limited amount of time (could be 10 minutes to start with and build up to an hour) on the things you needed and wanted to do in a day and always moving onto the next thing after the time had expired..It helped me get my tax and the housework done and stopped me zoning out on the web.
