This may need to get moved.

I am currently working with a parent and she is against meds for her child who has ADHD. She said she would consider meds if all else fails. I want to get her as much information as possible as to the pros and cons of meds and any other non medication possibilities (i.e., biofeedback, diet, etc...) that she can try. I am interested in actual scentific articles not just ideas you may have. I want the actual research.

Please let me know

Thank you

My ADD voice in my head:
"lookup scientific articles?... ugh too much work."

Now to Actually be helpful...
-Go find books by Dr Hallowell, a doctor with ADD, i'm sure something in one of his books was discussing non-med alternatives, and he speaks in a scientific kinda way.
-Go get a copy of 'Healing ADD' by Daniel G Amen. Not only will it clarify the 6 types of ADD and what can be done, it also gives extensive scientific explanation on several different kinds of therapies. He's got an ADD-specific practice, and has worked with thousands of patients, which is what his book is based on.

CogMed for working memory as some solid research behind it too, available on it's website, but going to bed, just wanted to mention it, if the child you are working with has any issues with executive functions and working memory. There are some threads here on CogMed and a couple of members doing it. Hallowell provides it in his clinics too. Takes 5 weeks to complete.

Lucky child to have you to work with. ;-)
