Good thread!!
Dairy Queen (got fired for always being late...And reading on the job instead of cleaning)
Norland's Plastic (plastic molding place. Suddenly I couldn't handle the smell of melting plastic. Makes me sick.)
Worked for the Wichita Wrangler's baseball team for one day in the gift shop. Got confused about when I was supposed to work next. I don't remember the exact reason I quit..or got fired. whatever.
Temporary agencies - loved those. Very diverse. Bagging marbles, stuffing envelopes, working with the coupons that's in the middle of the Sunday papers, Coleman Company (assembling flashlights), cleaning a HUGE house after the workers finished building it (the wood shavings, etc. Needed vacuumed, etc. Proud to say I was the first one to do a cartwheel in that house!), pasting stickers on boxes (like the big pictures that show the product. A plastic swimming pool for example), and other odd jobs....
Shepler's Western Wear. Didn't get along with the other girls working there. I could tell they were laughing at me.
Dairy Queen again (this time at a mall)
the Zoo (fed the humans. I miss that job. I was depressed and took off for Colorado)
McDonalds (for a week. Same time as the zoo. Couldn't handle two jobs at once)
a subway shop (for three days)
Another fast food place at the mall (the assistant manager took me to see Van Halen...then he expected "something" for it. I just wanted to see the concert. I didn't give in to him. LOL.
Kitchen assistant at Omaha Public Schools (six months)
Wal-Mart (8 whole years!!!!)
What else? I, uh....tried the, well, call girl thing. LOL. Don't ask. LOL. Never actually did anything though. Phew!!!
My mom was an office manager at a small office. I helped out when she was on vacation. Once I wrote a note (since I was the first one there) saying I was sick and put it on the desk then went to the lake with a friend. My mom was NOT happy! (I don't blame her)
What else did I do? I know I had more jobs than that. Most of the time I got a depression spell and quit.
Oh! For a hotel. Busboy and driver. Made good tips...even if I'm not too strong. LOL. Drove people places also. They trusted MY driving? That lasted a week.
cameron 05-12-08, 03:07 PM To many to remember and to many to list.
DeloresMelon 05-12-08, 03:19 PM hmmm....
t-shirt screen printing shop
bussed tables
sales assoc. in shoe store
telemarketer (shortest job ever)
CNA in geriatric nursing home (ugh... especially night shift, prepping the corpse for the funeral home was one of my memorable experiences)
bank teller
accounting clerk/part time shoe store
accounting clerk (had just moved to new town)
acct. payable clerk (boss at previous job creeped me out)
acct. clerk
MOM
started my own home based gift basket business complete with loads of debt
mary kay consult.
pampered chef consult.
stampin up consult.
the accounting jobs have to be the most boring, and the ones I got in the most trouble at.
I've had so much fun lately using self checkout wherever I shop, I should consider a job in retail sales. I like that beep beep noise.
I tried telemarketing...well, the training. I left crying. When people think they're calling for one thing on TV, they don't know that they handle MANY different products! People were asking me about specific products and how they worked, etc. How would I know! The computer doesn't tell me everything about the product. I couldn't handle it! I'm better suited where I know the answers.

cameron 05-19-08, 04:50 PM John, how old are you? currently working?
John621 05-20-08, 01:13 AM John, how old are you? currently working?
Well I am 38 now, and I am currently in the perfect job for ADHD, for me anyway. I have been with this company for 8 years with top reviews every year.
My bouncing from job to job was between 17 and 29, I also did not include in my list a stint at trade school ( 6 months ) and college ( 3 months ).
I also had my first kid 8 years ago, so I felt I really needed to stick with a job to give the wife a sense of security and the whole health insurance thing.
cameron 05-20-08, 11:57 AM wow, you are my age. I still have a lot of job problems(luckily not married and no kids). I think if I was married and especially if I had a child, things would probably be a little different becuase other people are counting on me, etc.. being single, I know I have only myself to worry about, and sometimes that makes me a little less motivated. I know this sounds bad, but I believe this is true. I have wondered if getting married would "help" some of my add symptoms? I'm not sure. I have also wondered and often thought being married would make my ADD issues even worse(I have a bad temper). Who knows!? John, what is the job you do for the company? I don't have many "job skills", which is a problem for me. I'm not the type of guy who is mechanical or good at fixing things(and I'm not computer "techy" either). These area's have lots of career options, so this is out for me. I also hate blood, hospitals, etc...so health care type of occupations are out for me(where there are tons of jobs)...I finally got my Criminal Justice BS degree a few years ago(age 36), but F-up my job working in probation(got fired, loooong story). I don't know, its frustrating not working, and still not knowing what I'm good at this point in my life! I have to lie on my resume just to get interviews, because of my terrible employment history. I have had at least 30-40 jobs since about about 23.
Lunacie 05-20-08, 12:47 PM Got my first job when I was 13 - babysitting. Did a lot of that up till graduation from high school. I'm 57 now, and have spent a lot of time as a homemaker for my daughter and hubby, and for the last 5 years for my daughter and grandchildren.
babysitting
cook's assistant in hospital kitchen (a few months)
cook's assistant in nursing home (a year)
cook's assistant in restaurant (about 3 years)
(moved and got a job as) cook's assistant in a different restaurant (a few months)
(moved back and was rehired as) cook's assistant in first restaurant
became a stay-at-home-mommy
did day care in my home
clerk in hobby store (about a year - until they closed)
small home based business sewing costumes for Renaissance Festivals and weddings
clerk in Pagan / New Age store (a year and a half)
seasonal job at post office electronic sorting center
currently...
clean a salon (three years now! one day a week)
cameron 05-20-08, 01:09 PM I need the opposite of you, Lunacie...I want to be the stay-at-home-daddy. Just need to find a woman willing to be the breadwinner! :)
kilted_scotsman 05-20-08, 01:28 PM Funny how few long term female breadwinners there are!!!
I'd be in absolute heaven if I had a woman who headed out to work at 7am, didn't come back till late evening, spent lots of time abroad at conferences and threw a couple of thousand a week into the current account.
MAN it'd cure my ADD right off.... exit dysfunction... hello the country club life just doing what interested me and seeing if I could find a slim chick to do the gardening of a summers day plus a few busty women do do a bit of a home makeover.
Next life I'm coming back as a WOMAN....
kilt
meadd823 05-20-08, 01:49 PM Next life I'm coming back as a WOMAN....
I will be more than happy to trade genders with ya - it is about time some men took their turn at being the girl - by all means enjoy all those wonderful hormone fluctuations that screw with your brain - by pre-menopause ADD will be the least of your problems.
The topic???
Crap I forgot
Oh yea Re: Jobs - list them -
Geez who is moderating this any way?
I have been a waitress back when men were still living in caves
I was a nursing assistant until I decided to go to nursing school- wanted to make more money wiping less posterior.
I tried customer service - I sucked at that - can't image why
I went back into nursing
Presently working in husband's recycling business {and I should be working instead of posting - I call it lunch}
I have worked sense I was 15 - I am now over 40 never met a man willing to support me - now I am to darn old to be asking a man for money so I guess I shall just stick with making my own until I no longer need money {read I will be working until I drop dead.}
meadd823 05-20-08, 02:19 PM Oh yea I forgot I also did roofing for almost a year - I was pretty good at it but it was hard work luckily I was in my mid 30's so I could handle the heat and bending.
I tried labor for brick layers once - defiently too much for my scrawny hyperactive butt - screw that lifting bags of cement into a mixer,shoveling sand in and then adding water {and remembering how much of each and how much I put in already} then there was the moving it around in a wheel barrel and hitting the brick layers pad with the mixed mud {tricky part is without hitting the brick layer or the house with already laid bricks - well that was a problem. I sucked at that almost as badly as I did customer service}
Well speaking of work I get paid by the job not by the hour - my wallet says it is time to get my hyper hinny back to work - hi ho hi ho off to work I go -

John621 05-21-08, 12:03 AM John, what is the job you do for the company?
Well, I fix network / IT equipment for a IT service company. As I am company representative for Colorado I dont work with people other then various customers, so every day is a different location with different people and different tasks, surveys, installs, repairs, de-installs etc.
I also have a lot of down time to read and surf 'at work' which can be my office, home or any starbucks / Barnes and Noble etc.
Cameron, marraige is not the answer as I stuck out a really crap job for two years and was very resentfull for having to stick with it for the sake of the family, and as much as I really do love my current job I know I would not have had this Job this long if I had a family depending on me. I would have ditched it long ago for far off locations as I am addicted to travel and adventure.
Truth is I would love to work a few part time telecommuting jobs and go self sufficient in regards to growing / raising our own food. I did this partially in Florida and is something I would like to revisit in some country other then the US.
Good luck
cameron 05-21-08, 02:10 AM thanks, John. Yeah, marriage usually just complicates things even more.
John621 05-21-08, 11:15 AM thanks, John. Yeah, marriage usually just complicates things even more.
It all depends on the type of person you marry I guess, a good woman could keep you on track ( without trying to rule you )
in my case I am better off married as my wife is good for my adhd. I could quit my job for something I would rather do but for less pay and my wife would be happy with that. ( in fact it happened twice )
Although not ADHD my wife is very open to change and new situations ( we met on a ship ).

DotwithADD 06-09-08, 05:22 PM (First to last?)
Teacher's Aide (Lasted 11 1/2 years - I don't know how, During the last 2
or 3 years of this, I became depressed, had anxiety... which led to being
burned out. But didn't know I could have asked for a transfer to another
campus until after I was "let go" (same thing as "fired").
Dry Cleaner's - (hated that job... only lasted 2 weeks) (Summer when I
wasn't working as a Teacher's Aide)
Teacher Aide Substitute (not at the same school district, of course,
another school district) - 1 year... decided after that - it wasn't my kind
of job!
Data Entry Clerk - billing office (one of the employees were rude and
belittling to me:mad:)
Secretary - Career Services - at a college
Telemarketer - lasted 2 years... then got tired of calling customers "at
the wrong time of the day/night" - no such thing as a "better" time to
call.
Field Service Rep (dispatcher for cable tv company) - fired after 3
months.. come to find out... this is a normal practice at this company.
Applied again after about 2 or 3 years... after they changed their
name... but the same people were still working there... so, of course, I
wasn't hired. And had to wait 2 hours before they told me that:mad:. But, I
didn't apply for the Field Service rep job, but a cust. service rep job.
Lots of temporary jobs:
Medical Records - 1. clinic 2. hosp. (hated the one at the hospital-
again, one of the employees were rude and belittling to me:mad:)
Data Entry clerk - Insurance (Aetna) - lasted for a year before Data
Entry module was discontinued.
Mail room assistant
Data Entry Operator (Coding and Revenue dept. - hosp)-liked the job...
again: one of the employees were rude and belittling to me:mad:
File clerk (for a Life ins. co.) - again, one of the employees were rude
and belittling to me:mad: - fired after only 2 days - when I was told
"training" would be 2 weeks???
Office Assistant-Proofreader:):) (sales orders) for Greenberg Smoked
Turkeys - since 2003- Seasonal. This year will probably be my last
season... sad, but as long as I get a medical office job (after I
graduate) at a place that I like with nice co-workers, it won't be a
problem... of course I expect there'll probably be one or two rude
employees - as long as it's not my supervisor or a doctor or nurse that I
won't be afraid to "PUT THEM IN THEIR PLACE". - favorite job, but only
2 months out of the year:(
Note: Most of the jobs I had until 2004, was before I was diagnosed with ADD. Began taking meds in 2005... why? kept forgetting to get in contact with a psychiatrist (kept being late for some of the appts:rolleyes:).

So i've been in the same career from 1991-2008 (46% of my life... that's sobering), but when i switch places it has been a big jump either in location or responsibility- and the time between "think i'm ready for a change" and "bye!" is never more than three weeks. Including the move across the country.
Slow-motion impulsiveness i guess.
