I have a problem of sleeping too much. I have noticed it getting worst the last 2 years. I usually fall asleep when I sitting down and don't have anything to do. It can be at a bar, at home, in a classroom, sometimes when I'm driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic driving at very slow speeds, or even at a computer. This happens whether I get plenty of sleep 7-9 hours or very little 6 or less. But as long as I'm active I am fine, like I can work as a server at a restaurant for 12 hours straight and have plenty of energy? I'm thinking about going to see a sleep specialist, but in taking online tests I noticed that it could be adult ADHD because I have trouble completing tasks, being organized and staying focus. I also I have quit temper and other signs of ADHD. I don't have insurance and can't afford to see both. Can anyone help?

Temper (irritability), impaired concentration, cognitive problems (organization, focus, memory, learning) and daytime sleepiness (esp. in high stimulation settings) can all be signs of sleep disorders.

Talk to your DOCTOR.

Sleep apnea testing here just requires a requisition from a family doctor and a visit to a medical supply place to rent the equipment.

My friend that has narcolepsy used to have the exact same symptoms as you. You should probably go to your doc and ask for a sleep test. Your insurance should (hopefully) cover a bulk of the costs.

I know this is a really old thread, but I'd like to know if the OP found any more information on his condition? I am exactly on the same boat with the same symptoms. I will go see a Mental Health specialist in a couple of weeks to see if being sleepy can be part of being ADD inattentive. I don't feel depressed, just bored, but being bored can make me really sleepy during the day.

Does anyone feel the same way?

Not so sure if add pi has symptoms like sleepiness but I will share this with you : my husband is narcoleptic and one of his symptoms is being sleepy in low stimulation activities. For him _this can be reading watching tv or even computer time. He sleeps well at night but because he does not get enough of the restful sleep ( stage 3 and 4) it makes him tired. He also experiences sleep paralysis which for him makes it hard to physically awaken even though he is in a state of semi consciousness.

We are poor sleepers, and we move around (fidget) to try to stay awake. If we are not engaged, we will have moments where we feel as if we are going to fall asleep (all my opinion). I don't think it has anything to do with a subtype or severity of ADD.

I seriously wondered if narcolepsy isn't what I really have.
I was in the church choir and the services were televised. The camera man would pan around and get the choir, with me on the nod. LOL
Church, school, didn't matter. I couldn't stay awake if my life depended on it.
After I was diagnosed with ADHD the problems went away because I'm given the same meds as many with narcolepsy are given.
I hear the tests for this disorder are very expensive.

Without insurance I'm sure they are expensive. My hubby is also add and takes provigil which is an off label approach to treating add so bother are under control.
