Hello,
I am in the very early stages of planning an overland expedition. I have been thinking about this for a very long time and now I'm making good on the promises I've made to myself.
Everyone has a cause or a movement or something that is important to them personally. For me it is ADHD. I was diagnosed at age 8 after my performance in mathmatics began to fall behind others in my grade. The life changing moment for regarding ADHD was not being diagnosed, but when my third grade teacher told me that the reason I was not moving ahead in my grade was because "you are not as smart as the other kids". I know remarks like this are all too common because people like us are very misunderstood.
My story is very typical of most ADD'ers: I have always had issues with school and relationships. I never tried hard in school because learning in traditional ways was very difficult for me and I always skated by...until my later years in college. I have had my ups and downs in my career, whether it was jumping from job to job or difficulties getting along with my peers. I have experienced several job changes for various reasons, but I am finally putting the puzzle pieces together and I'm finding enjoyment in what I do, both professionally and personally.
I have always wanted to make a postitive impact on others with ADHD. Growing up I never had a mentor or a teacher that understood my needs. I never really understood my needs either, so I can't blame others, but I do feel that I can help create additional awareness of the needs for children with ADHD/ADD. Awareness is the best route to understanding and identifying those with ADHD/ADD and putting them on the track to success based on their ways of learning.
As I mentioned above I am in the very early stages of planning an expedition and I would like some input from the ADHD/ADD commmunity. I'm looking for input on everything:
1. Destination suggestions?
2. What sponsors would make the most sense or would be interested in this endeavor?
3. Charitable ADHD organizations that would benefit from this?
4. ?
The destination would be very dependent on sponsorhip, but I am open to all suggestions by everyone. This is my starting point for this planned trip so if you have suggestions please either post them or send me a message.
Regards,
Chris
