I have tried Ritalin and Strattera and no luck or hated the side effects. My mother lives out of state and she let me try some of her Provigil that is prescribed for her ADD. This drug works better than all the other ADD meds I have tried. Everyone is different and apparently this one works the best for me. I have tried 3 doctors in Dallas and they all say that Provigil is for Sleep Apnea ONLY. I know there is a doctor here in big ol Dallas that will prescribe Provigil for ADD. Please someone help me save time and money on copays!!!! I need the doctors name. Thanks.

Addison(high income city) is likely loaded with doctors. :)

Finding a doctor is not a problem, just one that prescribes off-label Provigil for ADD.

Any doctor that specializes in the mind or brain like a psychiatrist or a neurologist would have no problems in prescribing Provigil for ADHD. Any
other doctors may have problems prescribing it for anything. Assuming its
limited to 30 day scripts(its a controlled substance) and depending on how greedy your doctor is it might require paying for monthly office visits. Which in the case of a psychiatrist or a neurologist would be expensive. Provigil is
very expensive last I read to.

If anyone in the DFW area has a good doctor/psychiatrist recommendation, that would be great. If you don't want to post his/her name in the thread, feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.:)

Just find a neurologist that also treats ADHD. All of them handle sleep disorders and most handle ADHD stuff too. That's who I see and get my Provigil through. Just check with your insurance company to see if they will cover it or not. Mine requires a preauthorization prior to covering it (Provigil is wickedly expensive).

this might seem strange, but about 6 years ago, this was the first ADHD drug I tried. I was still in the denial phase of not wanting to accept being ADHD so I didn't even really give it an honest try.

I've read some good things though

I'm surprised that this is the first reference I've found to Provigil on this site, since it's what my psychiatrist prescribed for me from the beginning. Straterra was out of the question, my PCP had tried this with me years ago when it was new and a single dose taken in the morning kept me up all night, uncontrollably grinding my teeth.

Provigil is no magical cure-all for me, I'm still easily distracted in chaotic environments like my workplace, but what it has done really well for me is help me to stay focused during one on one conversations or in lectures and meetings, situations where my mind used to drift off quickly, especially if the topic wasn't interesting to me. I really wish it had been around 24 years ago when I made an attempt at college, I might not have dropped out after one month. It's also expensive, and my insurance copay reflects that - $50 vs the usual $10 or $30.
