View Full Version : Stranded in Central Louisana and Ever So Bored!
bdority 05-15-08, 08:54 PM Hey all,
I was supposed to head home to San Jose, CA today after a business trip and was shocked to hear that they had me booked on tomorrow's flight and not today's! Silly reservationist!!! This town (Alexandria, LA) is soooo small that the little plane at the little airport couldn't fit just one more guy to get him to Dallas where real planes fly, and more than once a day, too! Seriously, it was 3:00 PM and she says, "Sorry sir, there are no more flights out today." It's like a bad movie, LOL.
So here I sit at a hotel in the middle of nowhere (seriously, see for yourselves! (http://butchdority.typepad.com/photos/ok_try_this_stranded_in_a/index.html)) with a McDonalds, a Burger King and a local carry out BBQ joint to choose from for dinner (guess which one I am choosing) and absolutely nowhere to get a frosty adult beverage. Grrr!
Would love to trade some chit chat tonight with anybody out there that feels like it. I am very new to the boards, but figure this is really an opportunity to get to know some of the other members. So, a blessing in disguise, right? Not stranded at all, but rather given a chance to have some very quiet time to myself (ARGH!) where I can sit and type away without being disturbed. It's that or watch TV and it seems since I started the Adderall three weeks ago, the TV no longer holds much fascination for me. It's suddenly all so mundane. Has that happened to anybody else? TV used to be my escape. That and booze, but even that isn't as appealing as exercise and conversation. It's all very strange to me and I feel sometimes like it might just be some placebo effect I have conjured up in my own mind.
Uh oh, caught myself rambling. OK, I am off for a 30 or 40 minute run/walk on the treadmill and then over to Eddie's BBQ to see what looks good. Will check back in on my return...and let you know if Eddie can cook BBQ.
Thanks!
Hey Butch... that's definitely a small town. LOL.. I'd have chosen the BBQ myself.
I have a sister in law in Santa Clara..
scarygreengiant 05-16-08, 12:05 AM Yeah I would have chosen the local BBQ joint too. Who'd want to eat the conformist crap that McDonald's puts out? Have fun in Alexandria.
CAUM75! 05-16-08, 12:53 AM Well...... Does Eddie have a gift for BBQ or no?
bdority 05-16-08, 09:41 AM Eddie can definitely cook the meats! I should have known from the number of 18-wheelers around the place. It's beed fun being back in the south just for the food alone. Lots of fresh fish done Cajun style and now the fine smokey BBQ. Went for the brisket, ribs and sausage platter. Mmmmmm.
bdority 05-16-08, 09:52 AM Yeah I would have chosen the local BBQ joint too. Who'd want to eat the conformist crap that McDonald's puts out? Have fun in Alexandria.
scarygreengiant - Intersting take on the fast food. I see McDonalds as wretchedly unhealthy, useless crap for sure but never thought of it as conformist. Can you elaborate? I assume you don't see a hamburger as conformist...or do you? Just interested. I avoid fast food joints like the plague, but once in a great while I have to be reminded what an In 'N' Out burger is all about. Soooo yummy!:p
Does Eddie's serve breakfast? ... or will you have to break down and go to McD's or Burger King?
You said your flight is at 3?
bdority 05-16-08, 10:03 AM Luckily the hotel has a free breakfast room with fruit, yogurt, cereal and such for a good healty start to the day. I also saw two big waffle irons in there! MUST...not...make...waffle
bdority 05-16-08, 10:08 AM Eek! Just came to the realization that I only filled my little daily dosage pills thingy with enough of my meds for the 4 day trip. OK, now I am FREAKIN' OUT!!! Won't be home until 10:00 tonight, so no Adderall for me today. This should be interesting at least. I guess I'll just use it to really gauge how the meds are truely effecting me, huh???
Better run for coffee. Haven't had caffeine in three weeks or so!
Good luck, on making it through the day.
In my research this week... I found out that tryptophan helps produce serotonin.... try a turkey sandwich or a glass of milk.. it's worth a try.
Be sure to let us know you've made it back to Cali, too. :)
CAUM75! 05-16-08, 02:52 PM ...but once in a great while I have to be reminded what an In 'N' Out burger is all about...
What the hell is an In/Out Burger? In sounds dirty....
Grafter 05-16-08, 03:05 PM What the hell is an In/Out Burger? In sounds dirty....
Yum. Good burgers!
Much better than those White Castle "murder burgers" :D
white castle... YUCK!! JMO....
Sorry to folks that do.. I just can't stand them.
CAUM75! 05-16-08, 03:13 PM Yeah, I'm not down with the White Castles anymore. They're trash. I see from the In 'n' out website that if I get the urge to try one of thier burgers, I can shoot over to the Washington City, UT location, only 2402 miles from here!
(Hmmm.... for a roundtrip of 4802 miles @ 28 miles/gallon, I would burn at least 171.5 gallons of gas to get there and back. At $3.50/gallon, that would be $600.05 worth of regular unleaded, plus the price of the burger. Fun with the calculator!)
Grafter 05-16-08, 03:40 PM Sounds like it's time for a ROAD TRIP!
My wife is from Jersey. When we went there she said I HAD to eat at the White Castle. At around 1:30 am I swallowed down about 14 of those nasty things.... I felt sick for two days.
She then tells me "I didn't say they were 'good' burgers, just that we had to go eat there. "
CAUM75! 05-16-08, 04:02 PM 14? Wow. You dove right in, huh? If I ate 14 of those at one time, I think I'd be sick for two weeks.
bdority 05-16-08, 04:13 PM Grafter - yes you are so right! Gooood burgers at In 'N' Out! Now I fear I shall have to stop in tonight on my way home from the airport. And this after having been such a good boy this trip, save the BBQ night with all that yummy pork fat. I kinda miss the White Castles and Krystals. We don't got em in CA!
CAUM75! - I say it would be worth the drive to Utah. A small price to pay for such a really tasty burger. Seriously though, should you ever make your way out to where these fine examples of fresh and greasy cuisine are available, you gotta try em. It's the kind of place that looks like fast food, but you will not ever get your food fast. If the joint is open, it is crowded and you will get a number and you will wait and you will be glad to do it! Oh, and the fries, my god, the fries!!!
OK, now I must have one tonight, dammit. See what happens when you don't pack enough meds for your trip?
bdority 05-17-08, 02:36 AM To all who helped me through this little ordeal, I thank you. I am finally home, but now I am in pretty bad way after a day of tedious travel without the benefit of my meds. Have been really cranky and mad at the world for most of the afternoon and evening. The morning was good with some exercise, healthy eating and chatting on the forums, but once the flying started, I was hating life, and all the people and things and everything that goes with it. I have never been more accutely aware of my ADHD symptoms as I was/am today. Feels like I am right back to square one.:( I know tomorrow will be better as I regain the momentum that the Adderall brings, but for the first time in two weeks, I went right back to self medicating with alcohol both this afternoon at DFW and now here at home, just to quiet the "monkey brain" and go the heck to sleep, which is what I am going to do right freakin' now.
More tomorrow, perhaps in a new thread.
Again, thanks to those of you that gave me some playful distraction over the past 24 hours!
Butch.. welcome home... :) (you forgot about milk and turkey sandwich) ....both of which help produce tryptophan.. which in turn.. produces.. serotonin. ;)
