Interesting Idea. Ive read a book, that describes ad/hd as being right brained. The interesting point that I grabbed from my reading was that its not us or them who has something wrong. Its the way society is today. Mainly left brained thinkers organize school's, ect. The way they(left brained) do things, and the way they expect us(right brained) to do the same doesn't work for everyone.

Its clear as day what ad/hd is to me, being diagnosed a while back. After all the meds ect(which help) what it comes down to is finding *your* way of doing things. If you follow there(left brained) ways, you cannot 100% succeed. Your minds are not meant for that way of linear thinking.

At first I didn't want to have ad/hd, I thought is was REALLY bad. Everyones always told me I'm very smart, if I just do the work I would see that. Now I'm starting to grasp, what a wonderful gift is really is - all the bad. Learning to be comfortable and accepting adhd is one of the hardest parts next to finding ways to improve your ad/hd.

Just a thought

It does make some sense to me, in a way. My body is weird in that I am right handed, but left legged. I don't have the full blown proportion of AD/HD either. In addition, I also am more creative...which is generally right brained people.

*shrug*

It's more than that... you know the sort of stuff Ph.Ds spend their entire careers trying to figure out... perhaps ADHD people have the traits commonly associated to this right brain hoccus poccus because of the way they adapt to their surroundings. For instance, ADHDers use their visual cortex to process speech, rather than the *something abnormal* frontal lobes. This would appear to be visual thinking and all that right brained stuff, but is just a mechanism for action.

Well, I know I'm very much "right brained". Insomuch as the checklists go...

ANd I do agree. I know I'll never "succeed" in a left-brained world. I know that to maintain my sanity, I need to create a "right brained" environment...

I agree, I think that most people diagnosed with ADHD are right brained.
But not all right brained people have ADHD or chose to have that label.
And i think both left and right brained people are needed in society but have unique roles. So trying to mold into the other type is not going to work. Society trying to make everyone act, think the same is in a way preventing humankind from developing.(or at least trying, even if unintentionally)
They say that many of the inventors (Edison), scientists (Einstein) would have been diagnosed with mental illness, if they lived today. What would the world be today without Edisons lightbulb and over inventions? And Einsteins scientific discoveries? Maybe its their difference, their eccentricity and out of box thinking that helped them come up with the discoveries they did?

When you sent me your last pm Nexus, it made me think about a similar post i read that also talks about the whole 'visual-spatial' processing of right brain thinkers.

I've found it, and here it is.

It's really interesting to know, and I've been trying to develop some ideas around it in my research.
