Alright so im going to the doctor's tomorrow and I had success with adderall 3 months ago and now I need it again, but this time, I want a 60 day prescription for adderall. I really don't want to go to the doc's again and I need to save money as well. Do I just ask him to prescribe me 60 day's worth of adderall xr or what? Like how do u guys ask ur doctor's?

I think the Drug Enforcement Administration made a change late last year that allows docs to prescribe three 30-day prescriptions ... You would have to present one prescription at a time and then 30 days later present the next prescription. .
I don't think you can get 60 days ... It's part of the Schedule II regulation. You might, and I think this depends on the state, be able to get two 30-day prescriptions from the doc, but I'm not sure.
Adderall (and all stimulants) are pretty closely regulated.
Hopefully other people will weigh in, but that's my understanding.

If Adderall is a controlled substance like Focalin, you can not get a 60 day fill. ToneTone is right, your doc can write you more than 1 script and post date them but you can only fill one 30 day supply at a time. My doc has written scripts for me for May, June, and July and dates each one accordingly. I have filled May's, the other 2 scripts I have at home, but can only fill them on the date written on them. You can ask your doc to do the same for you. Hope that helps.

Yeah thats exactly what I mean, two thirty day scripts. Do I just ask for him to fill it for me ? I don't want it to sound awkward, thats all.

I see my doc on a very regular basis. She's informed me that once we've found the correct dose she would give me a few written scrips to take home until my next visit. The one Rx at a time deal like ToneTone mentioned.

I'm currently on a combo XR/IR routine. With the IR my doc writes one monthly script at double the dosage I take and tells me to break them in half (the IR). That way I'd only have to pay one co-pay for two months worth of pills. This was suggested by her not me. Doubling up on the XR in order to get a 60 day supply for me would probably raise some eyebrows at the pharmacy because the dosage would be rather high.

So to answer your question, I wouldn't ask my doc for a 60 day supply because I wouldn't need to.

You didn't mention how long you've been seeing your doc. Are your visits usually scheduled every three months? If you're a regularly seen patient and no longer need adjustments with your dosing it seems like the doc wouldn't have a problem giving you three individual scripts. But if what you're talking about is getting a 30 day script that will see you through 60 days... I dunno if that's too common. I have a feeling I got lucky with my doc.

If you're concerned about cost couldn't you ask your doc if s/he has any samples that would be suitable for you? I've heard Vyvanase is very similar to Adderall XR, it's new so the manufacturer must be loading the psych docs up with samples.

I get 90 day scripts for my stuff (Vyvanse, Adderall IR and Provigil). No problem at all and using my insurance mail-order option it is dirt cheap.

Prescribing regulations are on a state by state basis. I don't think any state allows refills for CII meds but having the option for 90 day dispensing should be allowed since it is commonly done.

Basically, just tell your doctor politely, "is it possible that I could get several months prescriptions at once time. It would save me some hassle."

Just politely ask ... You're paying the doctor; he's your hiree. It's Ok to ask ... yes, a lot of us get weirded out and strangely intimidated by these professionals. But I've been trying to be more and more direct with them.
My shrink is pretty humorless (initially I thought he was cold), but when I've asked for a change of meds, he's given them to me.

The best thing I've found is to practice what you're gonna say out loud. Docs understand that we all want to minimize hassles and time.

Went to see my doc this week. She wrote my Adderall rx for now and gave me one for next month, but it had notated on it "fill on or after June 21". I think that doing that or postdating them are about the only way you can get more than a months worth without having to go and pick up a new prescription.

I don't believe post-dating prescriptions is actually legal, but I'm not exactly sure on that. But yes, there are some ways to get a supply for longer than 30 days legally, as JR1973 has suggested. I have also read that the 30-day limit is a state-imposed limitation on prescribing CII medications.

You can post-date it up to two time. It's almost like getting three refills, but it's actually three separate scripts. The government tried to avoid breaking the law of no refills so they allowed the three script rule.

You can read through the whole link if you want, or just trust me that I read through it.

That is a proposal, but it does appear that it did later become law. Here is the official text on this:

You have a couple of choices here. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that federal law now allows scripts to be written for 90 days. In addition, you can have your doctor write scripts without seeing him for an appointment. My psychiatrist is 2 hours away, so I just call the office and he will mail me a script. If you live close enough, you could go by the office and pick it up without seeing the doctor.

I'm sure he'll want to see you from time to time to check on the medicine's efficacy, but he doesn't need to see you every month. Tell him about the money issues. If he doesn't understand, get another doctor.

Good luck.

Oh wow didn't know that you can just pick up a script without an appointment. Should i just phone him up and ask for 2 scripts of adderall, mentioning the fact that it is a hassle for me to take time out of work everything month just to schedule an ppointment with him?
