I have been taking my 100mg every evening, anytime from 7pm to 11pm. I find I sleep better if I take it earlier. Lately, I have been thinking about switching to mornings. The main reason for the proposed switch is that I am not sure how much effect I am getting 12-18 hours after taking the dose. There was a poll a few pages back, but not much narrative.

Any thoughts by others?

If it's affecting your sleep it's probably a good idea to switch to mornings. I'd ask your doc if they see any reason not too first, but mine has told me it's personal preference. Strattera has a half life of about 5 hours, peak plasma concentration is achieved in 1-2 hours. Keep in mind these are just averages for most people. People can and do metabolize drugs at different rates. You should still be getting effect at 12-18 hours (theoretically), but you may not be getting the full effect.

Good sleep is important! Not sleeping well will make even non ADHDers feel ADHD.

Today was the third day taking the meds in the morning. In true ADD fashion, I forgot to take it this morning but remembered 10 minutes from home and drove back to take it.

I seem to be more productive, but it will take a while longer to be sure if it is the medicine or just luck. My sleeping has been much better however.

When I was taking Strat ONLY for my ADHD I took 60mg at 7am and 60mg at 1pm. By night time it had worn off and needed Meletonin or Trazaodone to help slow down my racing toghts and get some sleep.

The times I have taken the Strat later in the eveneing I am able to sleep, but it has been very restless, and full of extremely vivid dreams. Basically, I'd wake up tired. After three years on Strat, it has begun to lose it's effectiveness.

Now I take 150mg Effexor at 7am, 60mg Strat at noon, and another 60 mg Strat at 4pm. When I was taking the Strat's the way I had been and the Effexor in the afternoon I felt way too tired and slow in the evenings.

Swithing the Effexor to AM, followed by the Strat's has helped with that.

I'm sorry, what was the question?

Oh yeah, Strat does not help me sleep, nor does it prevent me from sleeping. However, Strat effects the quality of my sleep with tossing/turning, etc. That's just as bad to me as not sleeping at all.

Switching around my dosing schedule helped me a lot. I take 40mg when I wake up and 40mg at 2pm. This seems to give me all day coverage that does not wear off.

Back to taking it at night. Although my sleeping was much better, I couldn't seem to get into the habit of taking it in the morning. After forgetting several times and finding that I actually miss getting up really early I made the decision to go back to taking it in the evening. One thing I noticed was that because it was mostly out of my system by the morning, it was consistently impossible to lay on my stomach if you know what I mean. If they made it in 50's I might try half at night and half in the morning. Oh well.

strattera still affects your body the whole next day when you take it at night...its a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor..you take the doses to get a steady amount in your body constantly.. it usually takes like 3-4 weeks to make a big effect when your starting.. i take it at night.. not really sure if it affects my sleep...
