I always go into Cleveland Clinic to pick up my prescription for 90 tabs of adderall. I take 20 mgs 3 times daily. The lady behind the counter always gives it to me and i never see my doctor. Well, the scipt always comes in a PLAIN envelope--but this time it said at the top: "PLEASE DOCUMENT" And it was written in pen and highlighted--it wasn't his handwriting but he had to tell his nurse who delivered it to write it. WTF? Why was this written on my envelope--it never was before? I ask for the script a week prior to getting it filled like my DOCTOR said to do. Is this normal for them to do???

I'm speculating it may be like some administrative issue, like a message to the nurse to document, not to you. If you have ever picked up a prescription in a pharmacy for anything, the pharmacy may ask you to sign that you picked it up and had the debriefing, and sign to that effect. Do you think it may just be down to that? If you received your script without any problem, that may be all it is. Just their stuff.

Maybe controlled drugs were lost in the past? (IDEA: Maybe some staff in the pharmacy are stealing speed?)

It might not be YOU.

Cheer up.

Document meaning you had to show your ID? After you showed it you received your meds? Sounds like a win-win so I would not be concerned.

Like previous poster stated, it could be issue with someone in the pharmacy seeing a C-II med waiting to be picked up and relying the name to friend and then said friend shows up to pick it up.

By providing an ID this will make practices like this very difficult.

Maybe i was a little uncear, sorry.
Im supposed to take the script out of the envelope when i get it--the pharmacy never sees the envelope.
The doc wanted the lady behind the desk who makes appointments/puts stuff in computer/etc. to read "please document"....like document when i picked it up or something. It was highlighted and bold. This makes me think something up, but im only following what he told me to do.

To be really sure why they did that, you can get the best answer by calling the clinic and asking a higher-up there, the manager or head pharmacist. It still sounds like an administrative move by the clinic to cover themselves, it may be a new legal procedure they are having to comply to one of the many regulatory agencies that govern pharmaceutical dispensing and/or medical providers, that there is nothing sneeky going on behind the desk, and again probably having nothing to do with you. Keep us posted on what you find, and if you got your script, try not to worry or think about it too much............

I bet this was for the office staff to document on your file in the computer or on paper that this prescription was written to you. The doctor probably writes a bunch of them at a time and gives them to the nurse/front office people to deal with. This is probably a note saying that it needs to be documented on your file. Since it is a Schedule II, the doctor is supposed to keep a record of this in case there is an audit by the FDA.

Yea i think your right this makes sense....i mean if they wanted to do an investigation on me they wouldnt advertise it all over the envelope:p

And, they wouldn't have given you the script if they were in the least bit concerned about things you your end, Summersoff! :-)

I think this has nothing to do with you.
It has to do, most likely, with the controlled medication thing. He wants to make sure you get the prescription and that the secretary or whoever records the dosage and date and all of that ....

Maybe his malpractice insurance wants him to document every time he gives out a controlled substance.

Believe me, if the doc had an issue with you, he would have said something. I've never known doctors to be shy in this way ... I think you can chill. But hey, one good tip is to next time you see something funny, ask! That's a great skill that I didn't learn until late and am still learning.
