well i'm switching over to give concerta a try- i have been getting awful rebounds w/ the methylphenidate ir's , and the theraputic effect only lasted 2 hours w/ 20 mgs !
i was taking 4/day, so 80 mgs

now doc prescribed me 2 X 54mg concerta's taken at the same time in the morning... i am worried that the dose will not be high enough throughout the the day due to the slow release, and i'm also very concerned that it'll stop working @5/6pm , i have many responsibilities i have to handle in the evenings...

i read in the prescribing info on concerta's website that the releasing mechanism lasts from 6-10 hours... (and then slowly tapers down in plasma concentrations) my body seems to **** out most of the medicine, more than most people, or my brain is extra ****ed up and doesn't respond easily to lower dosages... its really odd that i'm like this considering i'm only 105/110 lbs and 5'3, ???????

the main thing i'm stressed about is how FREAKING EXPENSIVE CONCERTA IS!!!
:(
my insurance will only cover a 30 day suply of 1 per day, which they hardly covered AT ALL (gave me a 30 dollar cut from the 157 dollar cost) due to my "brand-name" prescription deductable, then i had to pay full price for the other 30 pills, total bill came out to be $280.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is no way i will be able to afford this medication next month :(

aren't there any stronger stimulant meds out there that would give me my proper theraputic dose w/ out me having to take twice as much as the majority of add'ers out there??? (their doses are the standard it seems w/ what insurance companies will cover)

i really don't know what to do

i'll be posting back in here tomorrow to post my response to concerta-day 1

Wow. Have you looked into the patient assistance program offered by Johnson & Johnson (they are the corporate owners of Concerta). Here is a link...

The only other extended release medication that is dirt cheap is Dexedrine capsules. Different class of medication though (amphetamine). I think somewhere on this forum there is information for other prescription assistance programs too.

I did look in to the PAPs yesterday, and was greatly discouraged to find that most require the patient to have NO prescription insurance coverage.
i have insurance and drug coverage, but it only covered 30 dollars of the $160.00 retail price of 30 54mg concertas, and denied covering the other 30 that i needed.
i guess i need to find the right person to ask about the pap's and if they cover meds that insurance won't cover...?

but i need to find a good medicine first.
i just want to make sure i am prepared, if there are resources to help me with uncovered meds i want to sign up u kno!
