Well, after switching from Ritalin SR to Concerta about a month ago, I am now giving Adderall XR a shot. The doctors on campus have been a life saver, my previous family doctor kept me on Ritalin SR for about a year and a half despite my concerns over being tired, irritable, distracted and not motivated. My past 2 visits at the campus facility have been great, they're kind and really helpful. The concerta worked alot better than the Ritalin SR, but I still had trouble concentrating in class and reading the large amount I am expected to in my fourth year at university. I've wanted to try something other than MPH for over a year and am really anxious to see how I will react.

She also booked me into the Psychiatrist because she said he can really help balance my medications out.

I'm not too sure what to expect, I take 10mg tomorrow when I wake up, and and can move to 20 mg as I see fit. Any advice for a newbie to Adderall? I'll keep this post updated daily with how I feel.

I have a question, I see that from the literature online that Adderall XR lasts 12 hours. Do most people find it actually lasts that long?

I was hoping to take one at ~8:00 AM and then one at 3:00 PM so that I would be able to study at night. I'm concerned that it will keep me up all night though.

Thoughts?

The first time I took Adderall, it felt like I got 12 hours out of it (couldn't really tell because I didn't have a visible rebound.) I think I get about 8-10 hours now. For some people, it lasts a shorter amount. I think I'm pretty lucky in that respect.

Advice-wise... Same ol' stuff that's been churned out thus far. Avoid vitamin C, don't eat too much for an hour before/after. This may vary from person to person and they might prefer to take it with food. You just have to experiment to determine what lifestyle combo best suits your needs.

Sleepwise... Even when I'm not tired, I still try to sleep at 11pm. I turn out the light, think I'm never going to fall asleep and then poof, I'm out like a log.
