My 10 year old is on 35 mg and has been at this level for about 5 weeks now. Tonight after running around alot outside, he came in all sweaty and hot. About 10 min later he had a nosebleed from both nostrils. Unfortunately I did not arrive on the scene until he was wiping his nose. He said he saw in the bathroom mirror that blood was running out of his nostrils, he blew some out and it started streaming out in the toilet but then he flushed it so I didn't see how much blood there was. It stopped quickly. He never gets nosebleeds.
Has anyone had this experience? Not sure if I should be concerned about this.

the nasal saline stuff, in a bottle, you snort, you get it at the drug store.
.......it's dried out.
.. I'd also call the doctor in the a.m. ....and double check with them as well. Make sure you tell them this has never happened before.

Are you saying he's dehydrated or something? What do you think is the mechanism for causing the nosebleed? I know he doesn't eat and drink as much as he should due to a lowered appetite. There really isn't any dry winter air anymore, with the heat turned on all the time like in the winter.
thanks for the reply.
do you have a humidifier? that might help for the dry nose..
but he needs to have hydration.. otherwise, if it gets too serious, he could end up in hospital on IV's..that's what they told my youngest recently.

Common causes of nose bleeds are dryness, nose picking, irritation caused by colds, allergies, sinus infections and the nose blowing that goes along with that, intranasal drug use, bleeding disorders, and hypertension. The last one is the only one likely to be related to Strattera as far as I know. Has your son's blood pressure been monitored since starting Strattera? If his blood pressure is ok and this does not begin to happen more frequently I would not worry. Let us know what the doc says if you see them.

Doc says the blood pressure is ok. Haven't had any more nosebleeds. Thanks for the responses.

i think its the heat that caused hes nose bleeds as it has happened to me before. What i do (strangly) i open the freezer and inhale very cold air deeply inside and the bleeding stops. :) has always worked for every single time i bleed out my nose when i was little.
