Hiya...

I've decided to make a post because im getting very annoyed right now..

i have not being diagnosed with adhd.. but i know for a fact i have it.. and i also think my mum has it.. but she does not believe me when i say she also has it.

i have gone through life wondering why i am like i am.., then my ex boyfriend had it, i looked it up because i did not know what it was,,,, and it felt like all my life had been explained to me via symptoms on the internet.

i have been waiting to see a neuro pyscologist since september last year..

i went back to the doctors on the 15th may.. i told him it needs to be chased up because i am so fed up of waiting, it is driving me mad

i am getting really fed up.. why is this taking so long? im sure my doctor does not believe me..

how long did it take for you to get reffered? im going back to the doctors AGAIN.. on monday..

i think this is the only way this is going to get sorted.. if i keep annoying them...

x Alanna x,

Have you actually been referred to someone or are you still waiting for the referral to come through? If you've actually got the referral then you would probably have more luck chasing up the neuropsychologist directly instead of going back to your GP to chase it up. If you've not even got the referral yet then keep hounding your GP until you get it.

Incidentally, I believe the Maudesley hospital in south London is the only NHS centre in the UK which can diagnose adult ADHD so if it is there you are being referred to then it could be a bit of a wait.

im in a very similar situation at the moment, the health service in this country has no idea were still stuck in the dark ages where they belive its impossible to have adult adhd and that its all down to bad parenting.....

ive read somewhere theres a adhd spealist in Preston not far from you i will try and look it up for you meanwhile u may wanna take a look in the international forums then UK here on this site

and yes keep bugging your doc and ill try to keep doing the same as im currently waiting for a referal from my pct on request from me to got to bristol adhd centre through my doctor though i feel he may have been fobbing me off as its been so long

i was offered to have testing at the local mental health service but had to decline as the top pdoc there still thought adhd meant u were thick, i wouldnt have trusted any dx they could have given

I wish I had an answer, but the situation isn't much better in Canada. Even for my kids, the referral process is ridiculously long. I am considering coughing up the $ to see a private counselor/psychologist just to bypass the whole thing... but is really expensive...

In the meantime, I found an ADD support group at the Children's Hospital (separate meetings for children and adult ADD) that is open to the public. I hope to at least get some moral support and confirmation that I am not crazy... and perhaps get some tips on advocating for myself and my kids. :p

Good luck!!
